"No Panning" is panning. Why?

Post by IronMike778 »

I have years of experience with VideoStudio and there has been one consistent issue I can't figure out for the life of me. When I choose Pan & Zoom for a video clip then go into the Customize section the video still pans and even when I check the "no panning" box. Does anybody have any idea why it always does this? I simply want to zoom in on a video clip and have it be still.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi
and welcome to the forums.
There are several options for Pan & Zoom, can you confirm which you are using.

What version of Video Studio are you using?

Oh sorry. I'm using VideoStudio Pro X6. It's the standard "Video Pan And Zoom" effect option.

Hi

I don’t have a problem with that.

I have attached a VSP using the countdown sample, using Video P&Z no panning.
Does that play ok
sample zoom X6.zip

Thank you for your response. I need to clarify the terminology I was using. What I'm looking to do is zoom in on the video and not have anything move. Let's say on your clip I want to zoom in on the "5" and cut all circles out of the screen. Just a zoom on the 5 for say 20 seconds and not have anything move. Can that be done?

very simple, you want a zoom to a freeze frame. So make it.

Hi IronMike

Yes that can be done….

As asik says use “freeze frame”
CVSX8 has this option as a single click, for X6 do it manually

Select the frame to freeze, showing on the preview screen.
Cut using the scissors
Press the Project word adjacent to the play button.
Go to Edit – Take a Snapshot
Image saved to the working folder, thumbnail placed in library
Drag from library to cut position, modify image duration.

Thanks guys but I know how to do the snapshot thing. I'm talking about zooming in on a video clip and keeping the zoom in place and not slowly zoom away. It's a video of me playing guitar and I have it zoomed in on my hand but before the zoomed clip ends the video starts zooming out. I don't want it to zoom out before going to the next clip. I want it to zoom in and stay zoomed in. The zoom ratio starts at 195 but ends at 146. I need it to stay at 195 from beginning to end of the cut clip.

I've been making quality videos for 10 years with VideoStudio. If I'm overlooking something very obvious I'm going to feel pretty stupid. Haha.. But I can't figure this one out.

Doesn't going to the last keyframe, clicking on it to select it (turning it red) and simply typing in 195 in the Zoom Ratio box, work for you? I don't have X6 on this computer, but I am sure this particular filter functions exactly the same way as it does in X7 and X8. I've just tried it in X7 and it certainly maintains the same degree of zoom by doing so...

Unless I don't understand what you are trying to do, all you have to do is set the zoom ratio for the start of the clip(1st key frame) to 195. Then select the last keyframe and set the zoom ratio to 195. Then when you play the clip, it will always stay at the 195 level.

You of course have cleared the "panning"check box to disable the panning feature

Hi IronMike

Maybe I missed the plot.

You wish to zoom into say 200% hold for a few seconds then zoom out again, video plays all the time.

Problem solved, guys.

What I was simply trying to do is zoom in on my hand playing guitar and hold it there for about 10 seconds but the video was slowly zooming away. The range was going from 195 to 146 but I wanted it to stay at 195. I've never actually used those little circles on that timeline bar before when you open the customize option. I could see the 195 entered in the box but didn't know you could click those little dots and enter the aspect ratio you wanted for start and finish.

It was a simple thing and I knew it had to be but I just couldn't find the option to do it. Thank you all for trying to help. I really appreciate your time.

You can also double click along that Options panel timeline to add new key frames which you can then set a zoom level for. That allows you to vary the zoom multiple times within the one clip...

Hi

A little bit more info.
If you create the keyframes, I had 4 in all.
If you first set the second keyframe to your hand and paste to all, third keyframe set.

Its then just a matter of setting the first and last to fit screen.

Set 100% zoom for first
Lower left of the panel are anchor points, easy to set the middle position
Repeat for last keyframe.

Just a matter of getting used to using this panel.
