VS x8 trial won't open x7 file

I want to buy x8, but before I do I'd like to ensure that it will open a project of mine I created using a trial of x7. I don't want to buy x7 just because I know it can open my project file. X8 was released while I was testing x7 for purchase, hence the problem.

However, x8 will not open even the simplest x7 project file. For instance, I drag a video clip to the timeline and then save the project in x7. When I try to open this in X8, nothing happens. It simply doesn't load it.

I tested this on two different computers with the same result. Any suggestions?

We used to proudly say that the trial versions were a full and working copy

BUT

Corel have let us down with X8 and produced a trial which is crippled in many areas - one of which is the format of the files you can use ib the trial - what is the full format of your project files

Unfortunately Trial X8 will only open project files created using X8. It will not open
A project created using X7.

Corel have reduced the functionality of the trial X8 that it does not support many of the edits used by earlier versions, i assume that is the reason for not opening those VSP files.

But we can confirm that the full version does open projects made using X7.

Can you contact Corel on their facebook and tell them of your discontent....

Corel has to pay for the codecs, even in the trial versions. So, they lose money when trial products are downloaded. How much? I have no idea.
That is why you can't import files with codecs that are not included in the trial version.
It all goes back to the bluray plugin purchase. If you want it, you will have to pay for it. I guess they figured that not many people burn to bluray as opposed to DVD, so why have it in the program and pay for it (Corel) if it isn't used.
If you buy the full version, as posted, you will have no issues because the codecs are included.

Thanks for the responses. I had contacted customer support previously and they didn't know why the X8 version wasn't opening my X7 file. They also advised I not buy X8 until I figure out what the problem was... So, assuming it is just the codec issue.. I'm going to take the plunge and buy X8.

With the limitations of the trial version, opening older projects probably would not open correctly. I assumed Corel had disabled that.
But as I say I have had no problems using the full version…Good luck

Could you please tell me if they've fixed the sound mixer issue? Every time I try to load wave data in x7 it freezes the program, which is extremely frustrating. Is this still an issue in x8 or does it work?

I have no problems at all in viewing the wave data in my full copy of X8

Don't forget that there is a 30 day refund option when you purchase X8 - so if it does not work for you then you can simply ask for a refund
