Choppy playback in preview window

Post by Cirrus »

Is there anything that can be done about choppy playback in the preview window?
I'm currently using X7, but I also had this problem with previous versions I have owned.

Usually this problem does not bother me so much whereas this choppiness is only in the preview window, final result is fine.
But occasionally it does...
Like now I'm working on a video where I'm syncing a music track to it, I'm using many short few second clips and I need the music/movement sync to be exact...
When I'm using the playback/preview it often get very bad frame rate choppiness, making it impossible for me to sync the music and video to exact point I want.

All the videos I'm working with in this exact video are shot on LG_G3 phone@1920-1080p 30fps mp4_(but I had this choppy problem in the past with videos from other devices too)

My specs:
Windows 8.1 64bit
AsRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer
AMD FX-8350
Gigabyte R9 280X OC
16gb 1600mhz ddr3

My recommendation would be for you to use the SmartProxy function in VS. This creates standard def copies ("proxies") of your high def video files. This makes it easy to edit as playback should be quite smooth. Then when you are satisfied, the edits are applied back to the original clips. Be patient though because creation of the proxies can take some time...
