CVS-X8-Bugreport: Cannot remount clips with adjusted speed
Cannot remount clips with adjusted speed in CVS-X8.
Hi there,
Recently I purchased CVS X8. It has some new features quite worth while, like saving set filters, freeze-frame, copy clips on the timeline, etc.
Though I encountered a problem, which was not been there in CVS-X7!
I put an extra harddisk in my pc and moved my videostuff to it. This means, that upon opening an older .VSP-file, I have to remount the clips towards the changed path to the source material. But now it doesn't work for clips from which I adjusted the speed. I used that quite a lot. It ends up with a message that clip should be longer then [timecode].
So with CVS-X8 I cannot work with the older projects, for the adjusted clips won't load.
What to do?
Going back to CVS-X7 would be an awkward option.
I guess this is a bug in X8. As said, it was not there in X7.
Will there be a bugfix for this?

Re: CVS-X8-Bugreport: Cannot remount clips with adjusted spe
I just made a test and no problem.
I took clips in X7, applied varispeed or speed save VSP
moved the clips to desktop
load VSP in X8 , relink the clips to desktop.... all OK.

Hi Jan
I have also ran a test to re-link a Timelapse/Speed with no problems to relink the files. I am however using the Trial version so may be a little different?
Can you double check that you are indeed targeting the correct file, I am sure you are but just to make sure….
When you see the Replace/Re-link clip Browser Window the name of the target file is shown at the top of the window, is that the one you selected.
Another thought…when you applied Time Lapse Speed, did you create a new copy of that clip using File Save Trimmed Video, you would then have two similar clips??

I often do the following: I make seperate audiotracks and put them underneath the videotracks. To make then a crossfade between two vidtracks, I make a cut plm 3 seconds after begin of videotrack, put a green marker to locate the cut, drag the cut clip over the former clip to make the crossfade en then I do shift+drag the end of the cut clip until it snaps to the marker so that the rest of the vidtrack again is in sync with the audiotrack.
The short cut clip has therefore a decreased speed. I was confronted with the unability to relink those speed-edited clips. The not-speed-edited parts of those clips were relinked properly.
So in brief: I had one videoclip, cut it into two, decreased speed of the first part > first part cannot be relinked, second unedited part relinks properly in CVS-X8.
Update: And I mostly did put filters upon the clips like sharpening and colourbalance.
OK, I shall try once again. maybe, after a new boot of the pc it will work.
Otherwise I am affraid that I have to re-install CVS-X7 and open then the older projects and save them after relink. I'd rather don't do this. It may mess up my application-data and file-associations or even the register, when X7 and X8 are both installed.

If you will do this with X7 samples, and upload here the VSP we can try it out.

Hi Jan
I think I have replicated the problem………..
Lets assume you have one clip….
So after applying the cut and speed change you save the project.
At some point the files have been moved on the PC to a different location, do you do that?
Open the VSP and you are asked to re-link.
What happens then?
I’ll do more tests to see if I can find a solution.
But I think you will have to re-assess your editing, why apply Speed changes, I just don’t understand that.
One workround to the re-link---place the original clip in the library
Drag this clip to the problem clip on the timeline, hold CTRL key then drop the clip, that should replace the clip, not sure if that will retain the Speed change?
Post Updated
Jan I have tested Video Studio X7 but having similar re-link problems, so installing VS may be a waste of time.
At the moment I am running the trial version but will re-install the full program to repeat these tests.

Solved: X8-Bugreport: Cannot remount clips with adjusted spe
Iata and Asik1 thanx again for the replies and efforts
.
I went again to the VSP's and to my delight the relinking-problem did not occur now. Also the speed-edited clips are re-linked now!
So I guess it was a temporal bug that simply has been fixed by a reboot of the computer, as I suggested before. Sorry for bothering and inconvenience
This topic could be marked solved.
As said, thanx.

Re: CVS-X8-Bugreport: Cannot remount clips with adjusted spe
Hi Jan
Well as I said I can replicate the problem,
When using timelapse reduce the % below 100%, that forces the clip to be longer than the original and causes the re-link error.
I was using the trial version but now installed the full version, again I have problems re-linking any split clip using timelapse.
I don’t know if Asik has tested this.
1 / Add clip to timeline
2 / Apply Timelapse to 70%
3 / Save project
4 / close VS
5 / Rename clip on hard drive
6 / Run program and open VSP
7 / try re-linking.

Well, this goes wth renaming source material, as you state.lata wrote:Hi Jan

In my case it happened after changing location of source material. I do not know if that makes difference.
But anyway, a relink-error should not happen.
I will do your test later and I'll report it here.

Re: CVS-X8-Bugreport: Cannot remount clips with adjusted spe
Hi Jan
Renaming the files, or file folder, moving the files or folder has the same effect, the program looses the files location and requests a re-link.
I found it easier to re-name the file.
I have not tested the Smart Project option, that may not require a relink, so would be no problem.

I have similar problem but inside VS X8.
Trim clip and use time-lapse, save project.
Rename folder with clips.
Open project
Relink the clip.
Clip which you trim and use time- lapse cann’t relink

Hi Jan
Corel have provided a Service Pack SP1, this is available from the program after Check for Updates. Go to the Corel Guide – cogwheel top right – Check for Updates
The SP1 fixed the re-linking issues when using Timelapse.
