I got my GoPro Hero 3 when still using X6, and never had any problems. But you have told us nothing about your computer, or indeed which Hero model you have. However, I would assume it films in the same high defintion mpeg-4 as mine. But it is also a high framerate (29,000 kbps) and can be filmed in fully progressive 50 fps (PAL)/60 fps (NTSC). IIRC X6 could not handle either such a high framerate or these fully progressive frame rates very easily. So I used to film in just 25 fps and accepted the X6 maximum bitrate of 18,000 kbps. Things have changed for the better with X7 and X8.
So can you tell us something about your computer (or better still, edit your personal Profile so you don't have to keep repeating the details if you come back here with other problems). Can you also tell us whether the skipping only occurs during editing (which it can do on less powerful computers) or whether the skipping also occurs after your have rendered your project into a final new video?
Can you also advise if you have tried using SmartProxy (which X6 has). This creates a standard definition copy ("proxy") of the high def original. Edits are done to the standard def copies, which also play back far more smoothly during editing. Then when satisfied, the edits are applied to the high def originals. You need to be patient, though, as it takes a while for the proxy files to be create.

As Ken says using Smart Proxy should help in smoothing playbackKen Berry wrote: Can you also advise if you have tried using SmartProxy (which X6 has).
