I have now tripled the amount of RAM in my desktop PC - from 6GB to 18GB. That extra memory has produced improved ASP2 performance, but only in the way that following a driver doing 10mph in a 30mph zone is an improvement over following a driver who's doing 7mph in a 30mph zone. Better? Yes. Acceptable? No.
I wish I knew what was causing this sluggishness, especially because I cannot replicate the issue in the two other installations to which I have access, AND for the first couple of months I owned ASP2 on my desktop, performance was fine. Something happened - and I don't know what - that led to sluggish performance, which led, eventually, to my deleting a user ID and creating a new one. ASP2 performance is today not any better than it was in the days before I deleted the user ID.
It doesn't matter how cleanly I uninstall/reinstall the program, I cannot get ASP2 to work correctly now.
I understand your point about memory leak issues being hard to track down, but that reality makes this a VERY frustrating situation.
Thanks for your help,
Bill
Sluggish performance in ASP 2
Re: Sluggish performance in ASP 2
An additional update: Using Rovo Uninstaller Pro, I discovered and deleted a handful of registry entries for AfterShot 2, whose trial I had mistakenly installed before I purchased ASP2. Having deleted every reference to AS in any of its forms during an uninstall process, I hoped things would go better. They did...until they didn't anymore.
All was well at first - seemingly not quite as fast I remember the program being when I first installed it, but it certainly was better, and more important, the program didn't slow down over time, which was a very promising outcome. Unfortunately the good news ended today.
I have concluded that issues arise for me in ASP2 after I edit RAW images and therefore have XMP files in the folder. The reason for that conclusion is that before I edited any of the new images in the new folder I created to contain them, ASP2 worked as described in the previous paragraph: not blazingly fast, but at an acceptable speed and consistently so. After I edited a few images, the program began to slow until it was every bit as slow as before -- only this time I have a completely clean installation and an extra 12GB of RAM! BUT as soon as I removed the XMP files from the folder, ASP2 returned to working as well as before.
These are new XMP files created on new images in a new folder. I have no idea why ASP2 slows down when XMPs are in a folder, but it surely does. It doesn't do so in the other ASP2 installation to which I have access, so there is something wrong at this system's level. I have serious doubts as to whether I will solve this issue.

Re: Sluggish performance in ASP 2
I have same issue - VERY VERY slow performance (with or without OpenCL). Going to older version (2.0.3.25) resolved it for me - ASP flies again.
Re: Sluggish performance in ASP 2
[ALSO POSTED IN THE "STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT..." THREAD IN WHICH I UPDATED THIS ORIGINAL POST.]
Good news!
After months of VERY sluggish ASP2 performance, the program is finally working normally again. The culprit was a PC system optimizer and antivirus program that over time had been the subject of so many updates that it finally messed with Mozilla Thunderbird's ability to process email. Antivirus programs were the principal suspect I found in most online troubleshooting posts that depicted the issues I was having with Thunderbird, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the antivirus program. Once I did that, not only did Thunderbird run correctly again, but so did ASP2 - full speed.. and actually probably a bit faster now than before since I now have 18GB of RAM rather than 6GB.
THANK YOU to all who posted responses to my issues.

EDIT: More specifically, the problem in my installation was a feature known as "Real-time Protection." When RTP is on, ASP2 runs like molasses. When RTP is off, ASP2 works perfectly. Unfortunately, RTP is the virus and malware defender in the System Mechanic suite. I have submitted a support ticket to System Mechanic's tech team in hopes that something can be done. If nothing else, I can disable RTP when I'm working on ASP2, then enable it all other times.
