Project stops playing

Post by Ken Veal »

I am working on a project about half hour long made up of MTS files taken with my own camera that show as AVCHD in the working folder and jpeg files .I have successfully inserted transitions and titles and the 1st wav file from a CD.I have gone through the project and checked it out before entering the audio. With much angst and frustration, I have come up against a problem that most likely (again) no one else has ever suffered from .At about 2 mins in on the project it stops playing in the project mode. If I move the project on a little way and press play- it shoots right to the end of the project. If I move to clip mode after it stops in the project mode, the clips play ok.The project stops on a jpeg file.
In my working folder there are 2 files with the same name as the project (Scotland). One is a folder modified on the 16 10 14, created on 8 sept 14, 3.3GB, 194 files 1 folder.
The other is an mpeg file 1.05GB created on the 28 10 14, its properties showed that it opened with win media player-I have changed this to open with VS. X7. Cant think why there are 2 Scotland files.
I cant think of any other info that may be of use to some genius reading this and I hope he or she can provide an answer to this most tiresome problem!

If the playback stops on a jpeg, have you tested this jpeg by substituting another at that point? If the second image plays well, then put the original image in a picture editing program like PaintShop and save it in another format or even just save it again with a different name and use the new image in the project instead.

I don't think your problem arises from having a Scotland folder and a Scotland mpeg in your working folder. They are apples and oranges and VS would not be able to mistake the folder for being anything except a folder...

Hi Kenneth

You mention adding an audio from CD, did you copy the audio files to your hard drive before adding then to the project.?
What type of audio files were they? Best to use WAV....

OK try this...

Save the project again using File - Save As, give it a new name.
Now remove the audio files.
Play the project, does it play ok?
No
Remove the Images from the timeline, save using File Save
Play the project
Does it play ok?

1 Opened project
2 Deleted “ the 1st wav file from a CD” and the 2nd one*
3 Play project
4 It played OK
4 Went back to what I had used for the 1st music track in the library. It is titled 4_Track18.WAV, when I hover over it-it shows a File name of Painting Creator~21.UVP, file type video. This is located in my Video Projects folder as a WAV file4_Track 18. The 2nd thumb* in the library shows the same sort of thing-2_ Track11.WAV Painting Creator~22.UVP-located again as a Wav file 2_Track 11.I had put this in the timeline after the 1st track but after a gap so that I could adjust the fade in/out and the overlap them. These tracks were imported from different CDs .There is a 3rd thumb in the library titled 2_Track 11, when I hover on it , it shows as a 4_track 18 WAV file located as a WAV file 2_track 11 in my Video Projects folder.
So, have I stumbled on the problem here? Could it be the way I have imported the tracks into the library? What is the best way to do this ?
“You mention adding an audio from CD, did you copy the audio files to your hard drive before adding then to the project.?” Do I not understand correctly that if an audio file(or any other sort of file) is imported into the library, it automatically appears in the working folder? If I import a CD track into the project library ,would it not have to be on the hard drive anyway .Would it cause a problem if I imported a track directly from the CD direct and not put the CD on the hard drive and then import from there ?
Or is this something else I have not been doing correctly

Hi

I was concerned that you were reading the files from a Data CD, you need to have files on the Hard drive.

I have not used the Import from Audio CD option, just tried and it performs well.
I chose to add clips to project after ripping, then dragged to library.

Now I am totally confused with the reference to Painting Creator

Kenneth

Import the Audio CD again, allow the clips to load to timeline.
Then drag to library, create a new library page for these clips.

Open your projects and add the new audio.

Thanks for that Trevor.1st thing I did was to delete the audio files.Lesson learnt--always check to see if the title of the audio clip is the same as what shows when hovering over the clip.
