Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
I am new to videostudio I currently have X8, and I would like to know if you can somehow burn a dvd with other burning programs or do you have to stick to VS8, I have already lost 2 days rendering in different ways but when I try to use other burning programs they do not recognize the files either mpeg 2 or mp4, what can I do, I even tried mac iDvd, or dvd studio pro, and sony burning software without any success. Thank you

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
I don't know the Mac programmes, so can you tell us which windows programmes you are trying to use?
A dvd uses mpeg2 files, which get made into vobs and these are then written onto a dvd, so I'm mystified as to why your programme will not author a dvd using mpeg2 from VSX8
Can you tell us what settings you chose when making your mpeg2 files and then the process you followed in your authoring programme and where it fails in that process and any error messages.
Is there a reason you don't want to use the built in authoring module?

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
I currently use Final Cut 7 and iMovie in mac and i burn my dvd on iDvd or video studio pro, the reason why I want to keep using the mac burning programs is because of their more proffessional templates, in windows I tried using sony video arquitect 6.0 and also adobe encore 6, when I tried VSP x8 ultimate either I get very low quality video or if I save the file to my HD the only way I can open it is through windows media player, quicktime does not recognize the file, I tried rendering my files under MPEG-4 and I have played with the settings many many times without any luck,
I can't seem to find any tutorials on line, it would be nice if someone makes a book or tutorial cheaper than Corel. Any help is appreciated, I have been playing with the templates in VSP but I can't get the results I need. If someone is kind enough to give me the correct settings for high quality mpeg2 and Blue-ray will help me alot. I have not been writting down the settings I have used. and I do not get any error messages it renders just fine.

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Hi
First of all are you using the trial version of VS X8, that wont do what you want.
What are the properties of the video files you are using in your projects.
Right click a clip on the timeline and select properties, what are they?
Graham has already said that a DVD uses Mpeg2 video files. You can render these using the full X8 version. The properties of your files may depend on the original files properties.
Ok
The Share – Mpeg2 option gives you a few templates to choose from
MPEG-2 (720 x 576, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps) if you are using pal 720 x 480 if NTSC
This will create a mpeg2 file suitable for burning a standard definition DVD.
The data rate of 8000kbps will allow approx. 70 minutes of movie to the disc.
If your movie is longer then this has to be reduced to create a file under 4.3 Gb max.
Bluray
Share Avchd or Bluray
The template you use again depends on your original video files, again what are the properties. Will render the project to Transport Stream video ( MTS)
Share at the top is the option to use “Same as Project “ change this to “Same as First Video” and it will use your video files properties.
But again we need to know those properties, if they are already Bluray compliant then your rendered files should be good quality.

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Thanks for replying, I am using the full version of X8 Ultimate, this is an AVCHD video, the video properties are: file format NTSC HDMV, Video type H.264 Video, 24 bits, 1980 x 1080, 16:9, 29.970 frames/sec, data rate Vbr (max 20889),
on the audio the settings are Dolby digital audio, 48000 Hz bit rate 384.
The other question is how can I downconvert to 720 x 480 16:9 with good quality on mpeg 2

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Hi
For Bluray I create my own templates using Settings – Movie Profile Manager—format AVCHD 264 then use the ADD option, browse for your video file.
That will create a template using those properties.
From Share AVCH.264 your template will be available from the drop down panel.
For DVD render to Mpeg 2, I see a profile MPEG-2 (720 x 576, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps)
You should see MPEG-2 (720 x 480, 16:9, 50i, 8Mbps) for NTSC
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Also go to Preferences (F6) set Edit Tab Resampling Quality to Best
You will reduce quality when converting HD to SD

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Thank you Trevor, I appreciate very much your help, I will try your advise and let you know, the reason why I sometimes have to downsize is because I do video events and my customers do not want them in HD, I do not understand why but they ask for dv, but just in case I always record in HD to have both options.
Thank you again

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Hi
DV is Digital Video wrapped in AVI.
You can convert the project/video to DV – Avi using Share – AVI
Although standard definition it uses 13 gb per hour
Is used by Mini DV Camcorders, very good quality, the best till HD came along.
Very good for editing as the format is lossless.
There is one issue, the default template uses Lower Field, and your AVCHD uses Upper Field, not good for quality changing the interlacing.
Best to….. you guessed it…. create your own template
From Share – AVI – “+” change the General tab frame type to use Upper Field
You can then render using the correct frame order.
I assume you provide a video file not a DVD?

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
No, I actually provide a dvd, is there any disadvantage to it?, that is why I have been trying to encode in mpeg 2, because this is the codec needed to burn a dvd.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Since you are going to create a DVD the only option is an mpg format. Trevor gave you the settings in his post on 22 Mar 2015 14:01
VS X8 will have no problem burning a DVD from that mpg file. Other Windows DVD creating programs will also have no problems. I cannot comment on Mac based software.
Quality will be reduced from HD video

Re: Exporting video to burn in other burning programs
Hi agal1057
You are downsizing a video using 1920 x 1080 at 20889kbps to 720 x 480 at 8000kbps
That is quite a reduction in file size and as such will impact on quality.
Provided the DVD is played on a normal TV and not a large HD model then the quality should be acceptable.
You may wish to try a video converter, maybe Format Factory to convert the Avchd to mpeg2, you can then compare quality with the VS render.
Take care when installing Format Factory as it tries to install browser add-ons, deselect all add-ons, just install Format Factory.

Thank you again, I azm downloading format factory now and will try both to check on the quality of the video and post the result here as soon as I am done.
