X2 will not recognise plugins?
This is driving me nuts! I just can NOT get PSP X2 Ultimate to recognise Nvidia'a DDS plugin. I HAVE followed the right directory procedure for installing the plugins, but X2 says 'greyed' no plugins installed? The plugins are in the directory, but X2 refuses to see them. I have tried two files dds64.8bi and also dds.8bi. Nvidia's website says that these files will work on PSP X2 but they don't for me. I know others who use PSPX2 and they say the Nvidia DDS plugins are working fine for them? Please, any help or advise!

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
I have no idea what the NVidia plug in does... but is it 64 bit (which you may have chosen since I see your OS is 64 bit) or 32 bit? PSP X2 is only available in 32 bit so of course if the plug-in is 64 bit, it will not work with X2.

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
I Googled and came across this:
https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-tex ... -photoshop
Is that the one?
If it is a plugin made for Photoshop only, it likely won't work in PSP, whatever the version.

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
Joelle, it's okay this plugin has worked (although shakily) on PSP before. It's not designed to work with PSP. There have been several topics made on this plugin.
That being said as new versions come out it's not guaranteed to work in PSP. If the newest version of the plugin still doesn't work for you, then try an older one. But, yes, this plugin has worked inside of PSP before.
Kind of a fun trivia, but this plugin will not show up under the Effects menu even if it's installed properly.
Only plugins with .8bf will show up under the effects menu. The file extension *.8bi is for file formats. It's a way to allow Photoshop to support importing and exporting more file formats.
So try looking inside the Open and Save dialogs, does it show *.DDS as a file format you can save or open?

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
Thanks Levi, I am not familiar with that one, but I don't use a lot of plugins, which might account for it
I hope it will work for Eurostar27 (a train? ☺)

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
I have just downloaded PSPX7 with 30 day trial. I have installed the Nvidia DDS plugins on both 32&64bit versions. Plugin dds.8bi on the 32bit X7 and dds64.8bi on the 64bit X7. Same problem, plugins not recognised. These plugins work for most, but not me. Maybe I should just give up and throw the PC out the window!

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
Have you tried the following suggestion that Levi Fiction made above?
Only plugins with .8bf will show up under the effects menu. The file extension *.8bi is for file formats. It's a way to allow Photoshop to support importing and exporting more file formats.
So try looking inside the Open and Save dialogs, does it show *.DDS as a file format you can save or open?

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
Don't know if this will help or not. But I recorded a video on how I installed the plugins inside of PSP.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peZXn1X0HHc
Audo might potentially be a bit quiet. My microphone is not picking up sound like it used to, waiting on a replacement.

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
Thanks for help. I hope you will stay with me until a solution can be found. In X2 and X7 I did try changing the name to dds.8bi (dds64.8bi) to .8bf but still not recognised, not even in the effects menu of ALL 3 versions (X2, X7 32bit, X7 64bit) And yes, I do know the dds64.8bi goes into X7 64bit, dds.8bi in X2 and X7 32bit. So I have the correct Nvidia plugins installed on ALL 3 versions, and NO version will recognise them. In the import/export menu and effects menu of ALL 3 versions, 'No Plugins Loaded' (greyed)!? I have followed your YouTube tutorial CAREFULLY, to no avail. I am really pulling my hair out over this, and is so frustrating I cant say!!!LeviFiction wrote:Don't know if this will help or not. Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
You can't just change the extension. The extension name is to give you a clue as to where they will go, they don't tell PSP where they will go. So don't change the extension ever.
It also will not appear in the export menu. It will only appear as a file option inside the Open and Save dialogs.

Re: X2 will not recognise plugins?
I have tried the 'Open' and 'Save' option, but DDS does not appear in the list of file types? Same problem as with the trial versions of X7 32/64bit? I think maybe there is no solution, or maybe some system files are missing causing this problem?LeviFiction wrote:You can't just change the extension.
