BD->DVD

Post by zoobie »

Trying to backup a BD to DVD with VS11+, I've ripped a pressed BD to my HDD. Mediainfo says the scan type is MBAFF.
However, no matter what settings I choose in VS (UFF, BFF, Frames), the iso file always comes out BFF according to Gspot.
Shooting video in HD, my files have always been UFF.
What's happening?

Since you have ripped the BD (using what?) you should presumably now have a series of .m2ts files on your computer, probably labelled something like 00000.m2ts, 00001.m2ts and so on. But what are you doing then in VS 11+? Are you first converting those .m2ts files into DVD-compatible mpeg-2 and making sure the Field Order remains as UFF? Or are you putting them straight into the burning module and letting the conversion take place there?

Either way, by the time you are in the burning module, have you clicked on the second (Options) cogwheel icon in the bottom left of the burning screen and checked what the burning options show in the big window in the top of the box which appears when you click that icon? If by default it is showing Lower (or Bottom) Field First -- which IIRC it does in VS 11+ -- then change the properties to UFF.

If, on the other hand, you have already converted the m2ts files to mpeg-2, then when you click the Options cogwheel icon, make sure the box beside "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" is ticked. That way no further conversion of your files will take place. (NOTE: you would of course be aware that .m2ts files are not DVD-compliant so ticking that box would be irrelevant if you have not already converted the m2ts to mpeg-2 in the editing module.)

I popped in the m2ts main movie BD file and let VS create/convert to a DVD structure and size without prepping.
I was just concerned with the field order having never seen MBAFF.
Being curious, I went ahead and burned a disc and it came out good.
This greatly simplifies things when converting BD to DVD.
Thanks
