Hail the reader,
Still a newby to both PPS x6 and this forum.
I would like to learn how to make a light area around my black and white photos -
see the url which shows the effect I would like to learn to do - looked on the net for tut vids - but did not find any which teach that effect - possibly because I am not fully au fait with layers yet.
http://www.granitephotoengravers.com/we ... ories.html
A word or pdf would be best a bit like here below - as it is for a dummy like me.
1. do this
2. do this
3. do this etc
Also, vid tut goes through the whole process which moves by far too fast to remember the whole process.
I look forward to receiving your help
thank you

1. Edit mode, Window > Untick Tabbed documents
2. Make sure Layers palette is visible (F8).
3. Right click the layer and Duplicate. You should now have two layers.
4. Turn the visibility of the background layer off and make sure the top layer is active .
5. Image > Object Remover - a new window opens with your image filling the view.
6. Choose the brush (has a + sign) and make the brush size big enough that it can include the edge of your subject and material inside and outside the subject (experiment with this to find the right size as it will vary with the size of your image and its complexity. I used about 60 on a 2000 pixel image.)
7. Outline the subject in green, (if you need to make corrections use the third button - eraser brush) , then select the fill button (middle one - paint tin spilling paint) and click in the areas you want to keep - they will turn red.
8. Click the process button and then OK. - Your image should be present and all other areas transparent (checkboard pattern). You can also remove any other extras with the Erase tool.
This video shows quickly how to use the Object Extractor.

9. Turn the visibility of the Background layer on again.
10. Double left click your the layer thumbnail of your extracted image layer (the top layer) and a new dialog box Layer Properties should appear. Move it so that you can see the image and the effects on it - top left tick the box Preview on Image
11. Select the Layer Style tab and tick Outer Glow - the default is Size 43 and Opacity 80, and color white. You can experiment with changing the size and opacity and also choose different colors.
12. Click OK when done.
13. Right Click the top layer and select Merge > Merge All / Flatten and then save your final image.
