VideoStudio X8 and mp4 - conflicts / shuts down?

Post by windowpain »

Confirmed by support, mp4 file wont play on their end either, uploaded to dropbox.

How come New X8 won't play mp4 and x7 was fixed to play them?

Can anyone suggest a free converter program without ads or spyware?

Thanks.

A number of us have found "Format Factory" from http://www.pcfreetime.com/index.html to be a good converter without ads or spyware PROVIDED you check each download page carefully and uncheck the unwanted virus checkers and toolbars it asks if you want to install - if you do that then once installed it seems to be free of the usual nasties and works very well

Hi

If you have uploaded to Drop Box can you provide a download link.

Can you tell us where the files originated, downloaded, screen capture or recorded on a camera.

If X7 can edit then why not use X7 to convert them?

As a sort of footnote, if your video came from a recent sort of smartphone, many of the latter these days seem to use a variable frame rate, depending on what is being filmed. VS is looking for fixed standard framerates such as 25 or 50 frames per second (PAL) or 30/60 fps for NTSC. It has difficulty recognising the variable frame rates used by these phones. Using a converter like Format Factory will change the variable frame rate to a fixed one.

Thank you Brian.

Spent a lot of searching and didn't come up with this.

I am new to Corel, trial period, downloaded this week and uninstalled last night.

After seeing post replying to my question, got X8 installed again and running it through its paces again.

I got frustrated when little old cell phone video was making X8 choke, freeze, eject in its tracks.

Many searches for conversions didn't turn up much until Brian gave me a solid lead.

Many users posted in forums about X7 and how some got it to work when Corel released an update to X7.

I never have used Corel before. Thought I would give it a try.

I am in many situations where cell phone is handy to take video.

And would like to combine cell phone format with D7100 Video.

Just tested Sanyo MP4 60fps and seems to handle it just fine.

Just need LG Optimus Pro video to behave.

X8 works fine on my laptop with files it likes.

HP Envy i5. 64 bit.

Impressed with speed of rendering 20 min clips.

Home user, kids sports, etc.

Take photos and video of softball and baseball, then have been uploading to utube for team family and friends to enjoy.

Impressive software so far.

Hi

Your video clip has been recorded in portrait mode, all video should be recorded in landscape, the video would then fit to a widescreen 16:9 frame.
Using X7 I was able to resize the video to fill a 16:9 frame, using Customise Motion effectively zooming into the video.

Video Studio X8 I had no problems using this program and performed the same as above, also added stabilisation with Mercalli

But so far no problems..

Using X8 64 bit windows 7 home.

Thank you Lata:

Guess I uploaded a bad sample of mp4 file from LG-E980

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tg9dmacpeqbtd ... c.mp4?dl=0

above is recorded in Landscape mode.

Could not see any settings in video to change, just the angle of holding the phone video.

Double checked this file again, was one of the originals I was working with, and will load into the library of V8 but when trying to move into a timeline, on a fresh start or any time, V8 just goes into limp mode and the only option is to close.

Baseball, softball season just starting up here in Illinois, and trying to get ready to record videos, game, training, and share with coaches and parents, mainly through unlisted YouTube.

Thank you again for looking at earlier mp4, hopefully this latest one in landscape will show you my problemos with V8.

Hi

I used Preferences F6 with Show Messages ticked….
When adding the clip to the timeline I was prompted to match the project properties, this I did ok.
These are the properties of your video file as VS sees them

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1088, 30.001 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 17097 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 96 Kbps

They are a little unusual having a frame size 1920 x 1088, that should be 1920 x 1080
I checked these sizes using Media Info which confirms the 1088

I could not play back in Clip Mode but ok in Project Playback
However changing the volume from 100% to 99% allowed the clip to play.
No idea why that should affect the clip, just a tweak we know about, works for some video problems.

By the way I do use Smart Proxy for my HD files.

Share –
I was unable to render to Same as First Clip as that used the 1920 x 1088, VS throw a warning. (frame size 1920 x 1088 does not match the settings and cannot be trimmed)

I did however use the MPEG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 25p, 15Mbps) option to create a new video file to:-

MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 15000 Kbps
48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 256 Kbps

That worked ok, the files size was comparable given the reduced data rate 17097 to 15000kbps

No crashes or freezes other than the clip playback issue?

Link to new sample rendered using X8 full version.

As for Format Factory that will install ok provided you deselect every option to install those browser add-ons, untick all boxes.
Format Factory
Check your Programs and Features for any small programs Search Protect, Browser Protect etc., view the list by installed date..

Thanks again Gentleman for taking time to help out old man.

My 1088 mp4 files, cant get close to X8 no matter how to import.

But, now I just used the Freemake software and was able to convert to mp4 1920 x1080 format and V8 ate it right up and played it.

This will work for me for now.

Converting just flies with these newer chipsets,

My laptop barely will make it to a benchmark test but man it is now flying with the rendering on VideoStudio X8.

Another softball practice tonight and time to bring cameras for more filming and post editing.

Thanks again to all.

Oh yea, forgot about the guy that turned me on to you.

another chat forum and I asked what software he used for his videos and he said Corel Video Studio 5?

Hi

Well we do seem to be having more than our share of complaints regarding the X8 trial, Corel have downsized the trial, feelings being they have gone to far, certainly your video works using the full version, even with the 1088 frame size plus a tweak or two, so should work the same on the trial.

It would be good if other trial users could test your sample, just to confirm your findings.

I have bought CVS pro x8. I have problem with rendering on format mp4 in HD.
I had my own project and for the example project from side of Corel program crashed as well.
Name of Corel project is "55_HP_Project34.vsp"
It crashed at the beginning of project and VCS pro x8 closed automatically.
I have not this problem for version x6.
I used standard settings from menu.
I rendered the same project in version X6, any problems with rendering.
The same computer the same condition. Only new version of software.

I send screens with rendering for x6 and x8 software version.

Contact with Corel support is under criticism, they told me to pay, an extra money for help.
I bought this product two days ago and it is not useful and I haven't any help. I lost my money.

Could you help me in his issue?

Do you know, what is the path of official complain to Corel company?

Hi Arek
Welcome to the forums

I assume you mean 55_HD-Project 34, not 55_HP and that it is downloaded from the Corel Guide – Do More.

I’ll download and test that template.

In the meantime please provide the details of your video files, right click a clip on the timeline and select properties what are they?

Corel Support

If you have just purchased X8 then you should qualify for 30 days free support.
Log into your account to contact Corel
and yes we agree that payment for support is not very friendly...

Hi Arek

So far I am not having any problems, although render is quite slow, very slow?

That template consists of images (Jpeg), Placeholders again Jpeg, text / title boxes and Flash video.

Do you have Flash installed on your pc, or update your flash to the latest version
Although I would expect the program to include Flash?
