re-installation losing library? VS-X7
VS-X7 does not start up anymore. I collected a lot of clips in a folder in the library. Can I make a backup of these clips before re-installing the program? Can I find them somewhere at my local harddisk?

When you put clips in a library in VideoStudio it is not the actual clips which are showing they are just thumbnails containing links to the original files on your hard disk
all of your videos are exactly where you put them on your hard drive - videostudio does not move or touch your videos in anyway
can you remember where you put them - can you remember their names - a search in Windows file explorer will show them

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
The problem is I have all my videos in folder "all videos".
I made a selection and trimmed videos which I put in folder "selection".
Both folders are in the library. I know where the original files of the folder "all videos" are on my computer, but I don't want to lose my selection.

Have you tried using the "Export Library" to a backup folder?

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Hi
As Asik says – go to Settings – Library Manager – Export Library should create a backup, create a new folder to hold these files.
Also go to
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro
Or
C:\Users\Trevor\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)
Re name the folder “18.0” to “18.9_old”
These files may be hidden by the operating system, set Show Hidden Files and Folders from the folders Tools – Folder Options-View
That folder also holds the library details as well as other info.
Why are you needing to re-install.?
What problems are you having, if related to the library then you may end up losing the library?
Try this.
After Export Library
Do Import Library just to check that this works and the library is not corrupt, if ok
There is a delay to setting the library, be patient.
Then
Reset Library, does that help?
Then Rename that 18.0 folder
Start Video Studio, a new 18.0 folder will be created, does that help.
Import Library, should revert you back to beginning, original library.

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
The whole problem is that I can't open VS X7. It seems to be loading, but it doesn't open. So I can't export my library. Maybe there is another way of fixing the program? That would also help.
Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
I found the problem, but not the solution.
When I rename this folder to _old the program start again, but then I have an empty library
...\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\17.0
I spend so many hours in selection and cutting all the videos and putting them in a library...
Does anyone have a solution?

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Hi
I do not know of a way of backing up the library without running the program.
The library files are saved within this folder.
C:\Users\User name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\18.0\en-US
At one time we could copy files but with the later versions of VS this has not been possible.
I did recommend re-naming the 18.0 folder in an attempt to reset and start the program, did you try that?
More details regarding resetting the program can be found on my Quick Guides
http://lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm
Otherwise you will have to re-install the program.

So the program is running now, but I want to put my library back.
When I do that again it doesn't start

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
I give it up. I've had so many problems with this program. Everytime again different problems.
Wish I had never bought it.

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Hi
Just thinking out loud….
It would appear the problem is a corrupt library, some files added to the library.
Maybe those have been moved or deleted from the hard drive without removing from the library, that would cause a re-link for the files, but if there are a lot then it may cause the program to freeze.
Where are your library files stored? are they on the internal drives or on an external drive.? If External is that drive switched on before starting VS, had the External drive updated its drive letter?
Nesting, that is adding one VSP onto the timeline, that places VSP’s inside other VSP’s.
Having nested VSP’s to the library will cause problems.
Tell us how you use the library, maybe we can workout what has happened.
For me……….I use the library as a temporary space for my current projects, I don’t use it as a data base to store lots of clips, and if I have problems then I can reset or remove my library, no problems, my files are safe on the hard drive and if I wished can be inserted to the library again.
Resetting work station…………
When you re-named the 17.0 folder that made a copy.
You could try moving some files to the new 17.0, but as I said earlier that was possible with earlier versions, the library is more complex and replacing files may not work again causing VS not to run.
You would be quicker re-building the library

But then when you go back to an older project for which you no longer have the library, because you needed to make a tweak to it, what do you do?lata wrote: For me……….I use the library as a temporary space for my current projects, I don’t use it as a data base to store lots of clips, and if I have problems then I can reset or remove my library, no problems, my files are safe on the hard drive and if I wished can be inserted to the library again.

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Hi
My project VSP and all files used in that project are saved on my hard drive within its own folder.
A different folder for each project. I can open a project no problems, I see my clips in the timeline I don’t need duplicate clips in the library, and if I need to import all clips to the library I can do that from the hard drive folder.
The point is I don’t depend on the library as a database. Why have clips inserted to the libraries when you probably won’t use them again.

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Oh, I agree with you, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't lose the ability to continue tweaking if I decided to go back to an archived project and that the .vsp file indeed had all the necessary information.
And there are actually 2 ways I see to recreate a project-specific library if you deleted it (intentionally or accidentally), each with its pros and cons:
1. One is the way you suggest which is to import them back from wherever they were. Cons: Requires you to have everything organized in a way that you know where they all came from, and it will also import clips that you ended up not using (which actually may be a Pro if you wanted to consider using it). It seems VS is smart enough to recreate the tick-marks for those that were used vs. not.
2. Select all clips from the timeline or storyboard view and drag them into a new library folder. Pro/Cons: If you have multiple instances of the same clip (e.g., you split a clip and are using different segments), it will create multiple instances in the library, but the time-segment used will be incorporated into the clip characteristics in the library, which could either be a nice feature, or confusing.
I think I'll adopt your technique and keep my library uncluttered. Will also save unnecessary anxiety about the library getting corrupt, reset, etc.

Re: re-installation losing library? VS-X7
Hi
Video Studio X8 now places a tick on the library clip when the clip is used.
If you wish to archive your projects then use the Smart Package option that will copy all clips used in the project to a new folder, I mean all including VS samples that may have been used.
I use the Smart Package part way through my editing, usually after my first edits to remove all unwanted clips.
Then I keep that folder updated which becomes my working folder for that particular project.
The originals can then be deleted to keep the pc clean.
