Should there be an archive of older downloadable samples?

Post by mracky »

Hi.

I was trying to remix/re-create a project I created with X3 six years ago. When I updated to X4 (x5, x6...), I did not preserve the "Program FIles\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3\Samples\Video\" directory. Specifically I waa missing "V10.wmv", an old-timey black and white countdown. I initially thought of re-installing X3 (argghh! [shudder])? And yes, it taught me a lesson about what you have to archive for a project. I''ve used VS since ULead and it reall bummed me out that I could not re-create the video.

I eventually found the file after two hours. It was renamed V18.wmv under X4. And luckily I had backed that program directory up.

But, it got me to thinking that I did archive all my audio and video clips and the project contains the text and timeline nuances. It seems unfair that I could not re-create a movie made with an older version because they versions had replaced/ renamed the samples. Corel blew it with their strategy and need to make it up to the long time users. The older sample directories should be available on line, and although I have never used them, the audio, decorations, and image directories probably have underwent the same lack of version control !

This is just a comment and idea from a long time user.

Hi

And welcome to the forums….
I assume you saved / archived your old VSP and files, although you don’t make that clear.

There is a process called Smart Packaging this copies all clips used in a project and saves them to a new folder, this includes everything in the project including sample clips, the VSP file is also saved.

Smart Packaging is the best way to save the projects content, useful when transferring to another pc?
This may have some problems with the filters or maybe Smart Sound not being installed, but all files are saved.

But yes I understand your need for those samples.
You will be best contacting Corel on their Facebook account and suggest the possibility of downloading those samples.

I have X3 installed the X3 samples folder is 122Mb, I can make that available for you to download if you wish, or individual files?

Never noticed the Smart Packaging under the File menu. Doh!

Thanks for pointing it out.
