DVD MENU PROBLEMS
I have just completed a project in VS Pro X17. It's about two hours long and has 31 chapters. The last chapter is a slideshow produced in Fast Flick. I used the Chapters markers in VS to set up my chapters . I burned a DVD. When I tried using it I discovered that the first 30 individual chapters do NOT revert back to the menu...it plays on to the next chapter... only the slideshow goes back the menu. The buttons seem to work OK moving around the six menus. Can anyone help me? Is their a setting I'm missing to get these chapters to play individually then go back to the menu page? Thanks. Really desperate to get this project completed. Hope some out their can help me!

A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at the best quality setting (a bitrate of ~8000). To get over two hours on the DVd you will have to decrease the bitrate to about 4000 and you will lose a lot of quality. You will have to decide whether the video is still watchable,

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
Thanks for your help...however I tried making the adjustment and I still have the same problem. Also,my project is only 2:01:07 long. I'm hoping that won't drop my quality off much. But thanks for the suggestions. Anyway...I'm still having the same issues with the menu...I contacted Corel on Friday, and they said a tech would get back to soon, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
Hi
It is true that the navigation controls affect the way the disc plays, whether it returns to the menu or continues to play.
But these controls work for Titles not Chapters.
For each video file you add to the burner module a link or thumbnail is created on the main aka title menu, it is these links that are affected by the navigation controls.
Each Title / Video added to the burner module can have Chapter Points applied, that is what you have done although from the edit timelines.
When you play the disc you first choose a title, I assume you only have the one, that opens the chapter menu aka Sub Menu
You are then allowed to choose a chapter, the disc will play from that point to the end of the Title, it will not pause at the next chapter. If you have the single title then the disc will play to the end.
If you wish your video to return to menu then you have to add the 31 as individual titles, 31 individual video files -- then there is no need for Chapters.
Clear as mud
Hi post updated
I just noticed your reply, at 2 hrs it’s a long video, that will require a data rate of approx. 4000kbps, effectively VHS quality. Only you can see the quality and whether its acceptable.
Instead of burning a disc, create a Disc Image , that will save an iso to your HD, play the ISO using VLC player to check quality, then if ok, burn the ISO to disc.
Make sure the iso is just under 4.3 Gb to fit a disc without further rendering.
That at least will save you creating those coasters.
If you want full quality then use two discs or Bluray.

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
Trevor,
Thanks for the input on the DVD quality and size....I have burned a DVD already and the quality is not bad. My problem is how to make the menu work properly. It won't go back to the menu after it ends but plays to the next video/chapter and doesn't stop till it gets to the end of the video all 31 acts. As I stated before I have use the correct settings. do you know what i should do to get it to play ONLY 1 chapter at a time and then go back to the menu? Thanks!

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
Didn't you read all of Trevor's post? Chapter will always continue on to next chapter - it never goes back to the menu until it reaches the end of the video. Chapters are a sub-division of a video clip (Title).
You have to use Titles - which means breaking up your single video into 31 individual titles ( ie videos)

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
I'm afraid it will be a rather tedious process with so many chapters to convert them to individual titles. Essentially it means, for Chapter 1 to become Title 1, that you have the project open in the timeline. Then you go to the point where Chapter 1 ends and make a cut in the timeline at that point using the little scissors icon under the preview screen. Then you delete everything from the timeline after that point. Save the new project with a new name e.g. Title 1. Then go to share and render that to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2.
Then for Chapter 2 to become Title 2, you close down that short project and reopen the original Project file. Then you go to that same point where Chapter 1 ends and make a cut again. Then you left click on the first part in the timeline and it will become highlighted and you simply delete it. The timeline will move left to the very start. Then you move to where that Chapter ends and make another cut, then delete everything after that cut. Save it as a new project e.g. Title 2. Then share as a new mpeg-2.
And I'm afraid you have to do that for all the remaining chapters, but in the end you should have 31 separate mpeg-2 clips which you can then insert individually into the burning module timeline and build your menu with the Return to Menu option ticked. And for future projects, you will need to remember to simply make each "act" a separate project on its own, edit and render it to an mpeg-2. Then do the same with all the other acts you want on the disc.

Re: DVD MENU PROBLEMS
Hi
There are other ways to do this….
There is a process called the Project Range, this selects a section of the timeline, identified by an orange bar across the timeline.
Some info here http://lata.me.uk/corel/all.htm Choose Blue Bar editing.
The range is set in Project mode.
You have already set the chapter points so can be used as markers for the end of the clips.
Using the mouse place the curser on the first green arrow.
Pressing F4 Mark Out will set a line from beginning to the chapter point.
The square brackets adjacent to the digital clock will do the same.
With the range selected correctly…
Share – Mpeg2
To the bottom of the page set “Create Preview range only”
Give the new clip a name starting with “01_plus a suitable name”
Video Data Rate.
Your video is 2 hours long as such needs a data rate of 4000kbps ish.
You should modify the template –click the “+” to customise a template.
You need to create 31 videos whose total size is under 4.3 Gb.
When you burn a disc do not use smart scene, that uses a lot of KB, thumbnail or Text
I assume you have a menu template that allows for 31 links per page, then you only have the single menu/title page.
