Autosave File

Post by Ms Wolffie »

Hello
New member here :D
I have a problem with the autosave file.
Every time I log on I get a message that the autosave file is either not valid or has been damaged :(
I cannot work out how to get it back.
I lost a full day's work yesterday because I didn't realise the gravity of the message
Can someone help me,please?
Thank you in advance

Is this happening as you start your computer or when you open PSP? Are you referring to a specific file or to the "Corel Auto-Preserve" folder? Do you know the path to the folder and to the file?

I feel you have not provided enough information to be able to help. Perhaps you could describe what you had done with the file and the steps of what is occurring.

PSP creates an "auto-save" file in case of crashes. If PSP crashes it should be able to recover any lost edits from this file when you next load it up. But it's meant kind of as a last resort. You should always save your work and save it often.

If the file is corrupt there really isn't much you can do about it. The most you can do is delete it and start over.

I think the temp files are located C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\Corel Paint Shop Pro X7 Temp Files\

My suggestion, just rename the temp files folder and create an empty blank one for PSP to use.

As soon as I start up PSP X7 I get this message
Image1.tif
Image1.tif (55.03 KiB) Viewed 6370 times
I o not know how to get the autosave file back.
I have tried to re-activate it but that didn't work.
I did save some of the earlier works but, sadly, the one where I finally got it right was the one I lost when the screen froze.
Cheers

I'm intrigued by your problem but still completely in the dark as to what you have done and what you have tried.

It sounds as if you were editing an image and your computer froze while you were saving. Perhaps you could describe what you were doing when you ran into the problem.

Are you able to use X7 now to edit other images? Do you have a version of the image you are trying to recover? If you do, select that and try from the menu Edit/Restore Original. In order to preserve originals Enable Auto-Preserve has to be checked in Preferences.

Originals are stored in a sub-directory of the directory from which you started named "Corel Auto-Preserve". Use Windows explorer to find the appropriate Auto-Preserve sub-directory and see what is there.

Could you provide a screenshot when the message you refer to comes up - at what stage of X7 opening.
