1. Fullscreen and Custom do work, but selecting an individual Application window doesn't work. As soon as I hit start recording, the count-down timer starts at 3 then abruptly closes and no recording is done. I can work around this by using Custom and drawing a bounding box around the application window, or by maximizing the application in question and using Fullscreen.
2. With fullscreen, the recording window shows a recording resolution of 1920x1200 (the native resolution of the screen), but the actual recording is done at 1728x1080 (I guess 1080 is some kind of built-in maximum, though probably artificially so, and the user interface allows you to select a higher resolution, even defaulting to a higher resolution, than will actually be recorded).
3. There is a conflict between the Screen Capture recorder module and VLC player (and possibly other applications?). When I complete recording and I get a confirmation that my file is saved, I can open and view the video in Windows Media Player just fine. However, in VLC player I get a black screen (but sound plays if sound recording was on). If I close the recording window (it was already stopped, but I mean close it entirely, although the main VS window can still be open), and THEN try to play it with VLC, it plays fine. I'm guessing there's some shared codec or driver that somehow both can't have open at once, though VLC claims it uses all builtin codecs rather than system-installed ones, so go figure--this one could be a VLC problem.
4. VideoStudio will crash about 25% of the times in a 2-3 minute screen capture attempt (though one could argue that this is normal behaviour for VS ...
The purpose of this post is mostly to share the data. I'm not expecting there to be a solution to any of these problems with this version, but if someone does have one I'll of course be happy to have it!
