I use it for standard photo editing and also for creating "autochops" of never-made concept vehicle models.

I'm afraid I can't help myself at this stage, but I simply have to ask after seeing this go on for a couple of weeks now: but what on earth is this thread meant to do when all is said and done?

I left it up so those who use PSP could say what they use it for. It's interesting so few responded, including yourself!
Out of the users: Graphics come out top then photos Vectors and Painting and lastly Scrapbooking and Restoration. PSP is an all-round user friendly software, not for one specific use. I was curious what others use it for.

Re: What Do You Use PaintShop Pro For?
I found it interesting as a simple survey to indicate what a lot of posters are using PSP for.
To read some of the posts elsewhere on the forum one would thing that it is used for high end photographer users that want 16 bit and more processing, full support for all of Photoshop features and plugins, chroma subsampling and other esoteric (to me at least) features.
Then you find questions from people just starting out that find Photoshop and other graphics programs too difficult and still others that just use it for scrapbook type graphics and tubing. So it seems that PSP is the Universal for most people.

I thought it would be helpful to Corel to see how their product is used.

I use psp x7 mainly for graphics. I don't mess with photos. I just wish that Corel would stay more focused on psp original intent...graphics.

New guy here, new to PSP, long time Corel user. I was just wandering why so many stated they are using PSP for vectors, and graphics? Wouldn't CorelDraw be more useful, for vectors, and graphics? That's what I use it for. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, just wandering.

Re: What Do You Use PaintShop Pro For?
I can't speak for others, and my usage as per my previous post was, in order, photos, restoration, graphics/vectors, but here's my take. First, I think people prefer PSP, even if they put graphics first in their list, because it is pretty good at graphics and vectors while being an excellent photo editor, so you get both capabilities in one program.MoJo Graphics wrote:New guy here, new to PSP, long time Corel user. Also, for the average person, the term "graphics" has a broader meaning than the perhaps more technical one that tends to refer specifically to vector drawing for various purposes. So for many people photo manipulation and enhancement actually includes some graphic elements, hence the use of tools like picture tubes and preset shapes to add elements (which are vector elements to start with) to a photo for example, not to mention the Pen tool. Some plugins, like some which provide a method to add sparkle or highlights/flare to light sources in photos, create them first as vector objects that can be manipulated prior to rasterizing on the photo. And, of course, the Text tool is generally used to create as vector, and many people have projects where adding text to photos is an important part of the project. PSPX7 has the ability to make some pretty interesting text graphics.
So in the real world of most people, photo enhancement often includes graphic creation and graphic elements, and some people might just consider their photo work "graphics" work. And having the ability to do both in one program is a major plus for PSP and without the expense or inconvenience of having two programs.
It's possible that those who ONLY put graphics and vectors (which are essentially two sides of the same coin) as their choice abided by the OP's request to only state one use, and it's possible (probable?) that they also do a substantial amount of photo enhancement with PSP and don't use it solely for graphic work at all, because if they did then I do suspect they would use CorelDraw.
JMHO, of course.

JoeB

Re: What Do You Use PaintShop Pro For?
Well some of us would use something cheaper than CorelDraw. xD Useful as it is I'm not going to pay $400 just to do vectors. Xara, Inkscape, DrawPlus, Expression Design. But I prefer making my vector work inside of PSP just because it's what I originally learned on.
