Making DVD with Corel Video Studio

Post by alfons »

I'm having some problems making a final DVD with X5.
Everytime I try it doesn't finish the full rendering or recording it on a DVD.
Also I would like to know if any of you can suggest a good programme for making DVDs of good quality.
The DVDs I make are not quite sharp.
I'll be very happy if my X5 would make them good!
Thanks again!

Actually, I use TmpGenc Authoring Works as it is more powerful and efficient. I just use VS for editing along with other specialty programs.

alfons -- From what you say, I am guessing you do your editing then jump straight into the burning module, where the rendering and DVD authoring is supposed to take place. If this is the case, can I suggest a slightly different workflow? When you finish editing your project, do NOT got to Share > DVD, but instead select mpeg-2. This will create a DVD-compatible video file which you can first test to see if it is OK. Once satisfied, you can then select Share > DVD. The burning module will open. If there is anything in the burning timeline, remove it. Then select Add Media in the top left of the burning screen, navigate to your new DVD-compatible mpeg-2 and insert that. Then click on the Options cogwheel icon in the bottom left of screen and make sure the box beside "Do not convert compliant mpeg files" is ticked. Then build your menu and burn. This way there should be no further rendering except for the menu. If you see anything about "Rendering Title" then something has gone wrong. But that shouldn't normally happen. And you should end up with as DVD with the same quality as the new mpeg-2 file.

Other programs I use to burn DVDs are Nero, which these days costs more than Video Studio, and the freeware ImgBurn. But the latter in effect requires you to either "burn" an ISO file or DVD Folder in Video Studio, then burn that to an actual disc in ImgBurn.
