Can't Open X7 Projects With X8 Trial

I have downloaded the V8 trial which says it is a full version, although when it installs it says it has limited functionality. It won't open my X7 project files, just does nothing. If I try to import a X7 project to the library I get an error message about wrong format. Is this a real problem with X8, or just with the trial? I'd be grateful for feedback. Thanks.

No the full version of X8 certainly opens X7 (and all other preceding versions) projects. Given the new limitations Corel has very strangely now imposed on the trial version -- apparently no longer allowing either AVCHD or even standard mpeg-2!! -- I wonder if your project contains either of these two formats, which the trial version of X8 might thus no longer be able to recognise?

Not heard of any problems before but then we would not be using the trial.

Using X7 can you create a short project using the libraries samples
Save as VSP, zip the file and attach to your post.
We can try to open using our programs?

Thanks. This might explain it, although I think it has also failed with just AVIs in the project. I assume it's only the trial version that can't handle these formats.

What version are you using 64bit or 32bit?
and can you provide that vsp?

And don't be fooled by it being able to handle AVIs... Unfortunately, there are over 800 video formats - and very widely different ones -- which call themselves AVI... VS can open some of them, of course, but for many you would need to have the exact codec on your computer for VS to be able to handle them. The two most obvious ones in this context are DivX and XVid which call themselves AVI though in effect they (mostly these days) are forms of mpeg-4...

Here's the test file. It contains a X7 project consisting solely of a sample video from the X8 installation. I've tried the unzipped VSP file and it opens OK with X7 but with X8 Trial, opening it does nothing and adding it to the library produces a file format error. I've tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the trial but both have the same problem. The AVI files that I use come from a Canon camcorder and work perfectly with X7 (and earlier) and other software, but a project containing them from X7 won't work with X8. Thanks for the help.

The file loads in X8, I had to relink V02 but that OK.
Why you had there the 111.mpg ?

Thanks for the info. I assume it's the full (ie not trial) X8 you can open it with. I have no idea what C:\111.mpg is. There is no such file on my system and I don't think there ever has been.

Strange… I have problems opening in X7 but opens ok in X8

X7 shows the clip as black and white, but no re-link and I cannot view its properties.
X8 opens ok, just re-link to the Mpeg4 file.

Asik...What 111.mpg file, I don’t see that?

Maybe I need to install the trial version.

By the way I assume the X7 is 64 bit, you mentioned the trial?

Did you create that VSP using X8, because the re-link is targeting X8
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X8\Samples\Video\SP-V02.mp4 doesn't exist.

Open VSX7, right click the library clip SP-V02.mp4
Choose locate on computer—where is that file?

Trevor you don't see 111 because it's hidden in the VSP.
I don't know if it was called by X8 here as I had to relink just V02

The only place I see the 111.mpg reference is if I open the VSP file with Notepad. Impossible to tell why it's referenced, of course, and as I say, it means nothing to me.

The VSP was produced with X7 (64 bit) by inserting a sample video from the X8 installation. On my PC at least, these samples are in C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X8\Samples\Video\. Strange that (apart from re-linking) it doesn't work with X7 on a different machine.

I can now open the VSP in X7 and X8 no problems.
My initial try failed but after resetting the program I have no problems.

It was the X8 sample reference that confused me.

I guess we need someone to install the trial to test your VSP’s again

Well Corel have certainly reduced the trial to its bare bones.

I cannot open any VSP project files made with other versions, that includes VSP made with X8 Ultimate.

Only VSP projects made with the trial will work.

From my first observations the trial X8 is not worth installing,
