Thanks for any info.

This Tutorial (not an official one from Corel) applies to the downloaded files and not the DVD.
Are there not any instructions that come with your DVD package?
You should navigate to the DVD and select the "setup.exe" file just like for any other installation from a DVD>

Thanks Tanguero for all your work. Wish I had read it first before I did the X8 Ultimate download this afternoon. I got message "newer version of Quicktime is installed, can't finish install". Tried the install twice, no luck, then called sales support who sent me e-mail with same download files, tried that but no luck, each try involving uninstalling X8 and reinstalling. Finally decided to uninstall my Quicktime 7 version and it worked. Took about 2 hours to get this done with the uninstalls and installs.

Then it took three tries to get the Contents exe to download.

Thanks again for all your info and to everyone else here.

Yes, indeed, the tutorial applies to the downloaded version only, at least as far as the installation procedure goes, and I will add that observation. As canuck mentioned, probably executing setup.msi is the way to go (though technically you should see what the autorun.inf files says and run that, though more likely than not, it will be setup.msi possibly with some undocumented flags). I would assume that the setup routine then prompts you as to what you want to install and then runs the remaining files for you.

However, if someone can

- Confirm this (that Setup.msi is all you have to run) and briefly describe what happens after that;
- Describe what each of the other .msi files above are and confirm that they are invoked by setup.msi (or if in fact they have to be run separately);
- Describe where to find the 32-bit versions of these files (perhaps on another DVD) and what the corresponding names are;

I'll then include a section in the tutorial on installing from boxed DVD.

All the DVD versions I ever bought self started the installation as soon as the programme DVD was inserted in the computer drive - the bonus content DVD when inserted gave you a menu asking what you wanted to install.

That's because you have Autorun enabled for your DVD drives and it runs whatever is in the autorun.inf file, as I mentioned earlier. I have it turned off (a) primarily for security reasons (b) I might just want to browse the CD/DVD and don't want a program to start every time I insert a DVD.

That's the way my computer is setup. Browsing the DVD, I came across more than one setup file, hence the questions.

Thanks for the replies.

That was interesting that you mentione dthe bluray plugin is not in X8. If I buy X8 and I already have X7, do I lose that functionality or retain it because I have X7 with it included?
That's a weird thing to do with an 'upgrade'.

If you buy X8 and do not buy the bluray disc plug-in for it you will need to create the required files in X8 - save them - then shut down X8 and open X7 import the files and then burn a bluray disc from within X7 - it is not a seemless integration

if you are burning a number of bluray discs seems a lot of hassle - why not just buy the bluray disc plugin for X8 when you buy X8 - it's less than $10

Just a slight, but important addition to that. You need to save them in X7 format. X7 cannot open files created in X8 format. But X8 allows you to save projects in X8, X7 and X6 formats.

In my case installing X8 removed the Blue-ray option from X7, so this would not have worked (independent of how the projects were saved). I have been told others have not had this problem. However, I know I had the Blu-ray option the week before. It might have been caused by trying to open VS7 while VS8 was running. When I did that, it brought up VS8 instead.

I contacted support, but after 2 weeks (and three separate support incidents) they still have no viable way to remedy that. The last suggestion was to uninstall both VS7 and VS8, install VS8, then install VS7. I am not planning to do that. I purchased the plug-in anyway, as soon as I found out VS8 did not have it. It would be nice to have Blu-ray in VS7 but not worth the hassle. This may be relevant, however, if you are trying to avoid buying the plug-in.

I purchased the Photo Video Suite X8 (Pro), instead of VideoStudio X8 alone. It presumably contains both PaintShop Pro X8 and VideoStudio Pro X8. It turns out the download links they sent and that appeared on the web page after the purchase did not include a link for VideoStudioX8_2Contents.exe.

It took 2 weeks and 3 support incidents (trying to get another person that might be more helpful) before they gave me a link to it. (The issue was compounded by the problem with losing Blu-ray capability in VS7 after installing VS8, something they never fixed.)

This executable installs a lot of files in Program Files/Corel/VideoStudio X8 Pro and provides a lot of content in the Library. In case you have this problem, are knowledgeable enough to know something is missing, and have come here to fix it, it looks like with enough perseverance you can get the missing file.

if the installation process will have a short subroutine that do this backup, it's only two man/hours of programing.
I understand cost control and I believe the Corel Suite of programs to be a great value. That said, it appears that documentation is not a priority. I don't know about you but the link I get for a VideoStudio Pro X8 Ultimate package is to the VideoStudio Pro X7 program.And in the process, I realized that there are NewBlue audio effects/filters included as well, and both NewBlue and proDAD transitions, so will add pointers to all this in v2.
