PSP X7 - brushes changed

Post by rpwalle »

since the last update (17.1.0.72x64) the brushes and effects have changed drastically. The push brush for example appears to be uncontrollable and leaves hard edges no matter what the setting. It used to be very easy to control. Has this problem been noticed by others? Suggestions for a fix?

Remember, choosing any tool you need to make adjustments to gain the right feeling and strokes you require. This means using the tool options palette and brush variance palette.

I asked collegues if they had noticed any difference and we concur there isn't any in the push brush. In fact, the push brush often behaves better than the smudge brush.

Are you using a mouse or pen/tablet? You get slightly different results using the mouse to a pen/tablet.

I can confirm rpwalle 's observation in X7 32 bit on XP machine.
There are two things called the push brush
1. In the group of brushes just below the paintbrush There is a Push and smudge and various other brushes (lighten /Darken) is the first
It is this brush that with hardness set at 0 still has hard sharp edgeds when pushing vertically or horizontally. Hardness 0 gives a rounded shape but with hard sides whil hardness 100 gives more a square shape.
This does not happen in X6.

2. The other Push brush is found in the Warp brushes under Warp Modes and this one has to be applied.
The result is similar but different but does respond to the Hardness value
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Okay, now I see it. I was totally overlooking this brush and using the push brush that is part of the warp brush.

Another 'glitch' I have struggled with is the Opacity setting. At 69% almost nothing happens. At 70% I get too much affect. I'm using a pen set on 'Normal'. 'Pressure' setting doesn't work for me.
I think it's time for Corel to do a full review of the Brush options.

I'm sorry, but I do not get the issues you refer. If I lower the opacity and hardness the brush is fine in both X7 and X6.

I would never use the warp push in painting.
