Capturing DV in 16:9 format problem

Post by PeterPawn »

Hi,

I am capturing DV video that has been recorded in 16:9 format. When capturing the preview window looks fine. But when playing the result, the height has been squeezed so that people look fat.

Changing the setting under File\Project Properties\Edit\General\Display aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 makes no difference to the result.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Note that when capturing a 4:3 recording in the same camera all is fine.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Carl
As a trial last video I captured was in 16:9 format, I had no problems and was impressed with the results.
Providing your camera was recording in 16:9 format.
Make sure you select 16:9 before capturing.

This is what I did:-
From file / Preferences / tick ‘show message when inserting first video clip to the timeline’
(This will ensure that your project settings match your captured clip)

Start a new project
Go to Capture
Connect camcorder via Firewire.
Select DV from Format
Select DV-type 1 from Options
Start Capture (try a short 30sec clip)
When capture stops you get an info window,
Selecting details will expand the window to show the settings in full.
The video properties should show 16:9 ratio
Select ‘yes’ to change settings.
Save project.

hope this helps

is your footage true 16:9?

I have a camcorder which records as 4:3 but can letter box to 16:9. at the end of the day it is still 4:3 footage.

if you capture a non sq pixel checked in direct MPG2 capture you get a squished result. uncheck this and it goes. IN DV.AVi however it always get squished. I have raised this as one of the many bugs with this program .
