Hi, I'm new here. I have been using Paintshop pro since version 9. I am presently using X4 ultimate for last few years for digital scrapbooking. For a couple of days now, PSP closes when I try to use the "save as" option and I lose what I've been working on. I have auto save set but I can't find files anywhere. so actually have 2 problems. I tried clearing my cache as that is often a good way to get things working but no luck. started and restarted computer and program. nothing! So frustrating! any ideas?
I can go and purchase a new version or get it online but I'm not sure that would solve the problem. seems like some weird thing is going on.
Anyone on here have any ideas?

TRy the reset to Default Factory settings.
Hold the Shift key down and double click the icon to start the program. If you have customised your workspace you should save that first.
Have you also tested the other options (you have not stated if you are saving as jpg, png, psp files) -

File > Save Copy as
Export > Jpg optimiser or PNG Optimiser ?

I haven't tried any other options. Should have thought to try that before posting. Thank you. I'll try that first and then try the reset.

I assume you are unable to find the files saved by autosave. The folder where they are stored does not show up in (Manage) Navigation. Use windows Explorer and go to the directory from which you started. There should be a sub-folder, if autosave was invoked, named Corel Auto-Preserve and the originals should be there.glouie1 wrote:. . . . Re: PSP closes when I try to save image
I have checked to see if the other options work. the only one that worked was the "save" option and only if I saved to my desktop, otherwise the program closed. I did a system restore. not sure why. just a thought. rebooted my computer and the program is working but I have no idea why this happened so I'm quite nervous about trusting it
Mark: although I have used PSP quite a long time, I'm not very computer literate. I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are saying to do to find my auto preserve files. Would you mind giving easy step by step instructions for me? I don't understand what windows explorer is or what you mean by go back to the directory from which I started. thank you so much for your help.

Glouie1:
This image illustrates the icon for Windows Explorer that you should see on your desktop and the appearance of the explorer. Once you have opened it you need to find your way to where you store your images. One way to check this: in PSP click on Save As. The "Save in" window shows where PSP will store your file. Click on the black downward arrow in the box and you will see the directory (folder) tree so you can follow the same path in explorer. Then poke around and become familiar with the structure of your folders and where different files are stored. Soon you will be comfortable with this.
Good luck.
