can't hear audio on AVI

Post by gauntlet »

I am using the trial version of VideoStudio. I just tried to export a test .avi file to my hard drive by going through the following to steps:
Share > Create Video File > Save as Type (select avi). I ran out of disk space beofre I could render the whole file.

I did manage to render about half of it, and played it back only to find that the audio did not play. I then tried making a smaller test avi with the same audio clips, had enugh disk space to render the whole thing, and the audio did play.

Question #1: Is this normal? Why can't I play the audio clips in my partial file?

Question #2: I assume I have to buy a DVD burner so I will have enough disk space to render. Will this solve thr problem of not having enough disk space?

Question #3: MY PC does not support USB V 2.0. What DVD burner should I get?

Video editing is consumes a LOT of disk space (think hundreds of GB) and also requires lots of CPU power (e.g., more than 2.5 GHZ) and lots of main memory (512 MB - 1GB). It also needs an operating system that can address more then 4GB of memory and can construct files larger than 4GB (Win2000, XP).

You will have to either add a disk, more memory, and a DVD to your current computer or consider getting a new system.

Your questions:
Q1: I am amazed that the file plays at all, since you ran out of hard drive space in the middle of the rendering process.
Q2: You need a DVD burner to create the final DVD disks but it will not provide any space for rendering.
Q3: Your burner should be installed inside the computer on the IDE bus. You don't need USB2 unless you plan to capture analog video thru a capture box that uses it. As for a specific burner recommendation, consult http://www.videohelp.com/

What size is your HD? You HD free space?

Do you have partition?

VideoStudio uses working folders, set your working folder to a HD that has high free space. Open Preference (F6) to modify the location of your working folder.

Also, it's possible that you didn't select a codec to compress the AVI video stream -- in that case you would have saved in uncompressed AVI format, which consumes ~65GB/hour for standard DVD resolutions.

I'd use a lossless codec like Huffyuv, or a high-quality lossy codec like DivX.
