HELP! PSP version 5.03 Picture Tubes

Post by RevHW »

Hello.

I am desperately trying to find any site or link or help...

I own a copy of PaintShop Pro version 5.03 - yes I know its "old" - but it does all I want and its easy for me to use - and I love it!

I need to know if I can get more "picture tubes" for this version and how to install them??
Or can I create my own, and again, how would I install them??

I would appreciate any help - IF it is possible. If it is not possible, would someone let me know straight up?

Thanks and have a lovely day!

Picture tubes are not compatible backward. If i create one in X7, it won't work in X4. I usually work with 9 and the tubes i make would not work in 8, so what i need to do is open the Picture tube file itself copy it and then paste it as a new image in the older version and then export it as a tube in that version so it can recognize it.

I know how it is to love an old program and not want to change. But with all the bells and whistles PSP at core remains the same over the years.

It still has the same methods of undoing and the same basic listing of tools down the left hand side although some new ones have ben added and others collected together.
For example in PSP5 the Deform tool (similar to the Pick tool in later versions) and the Move tool have separate button positions while in later versions they share the same location and have a fly out to select the other.
In 5 you have three separate buttons for Selection, Freehand Selection and Magic Wand while in later versions they share the same button position. So these functions are still there just chosen in a slightly different way .
In the evaluation copy of PSP5 that I installed there were only three tubes Coins, Pointing Hands and Letter Blocks. These are .tub files which were used up to PSP7.
From PSP 8 they used .PspTube files.
There is a wealth of Picture tubes out there that you are missing out on, so perhaps it would be best to upgrade.
You can install a trial version of PSP X7 to test out what you mainly use and there are a lot of people on these forums ready to help.

At a pinch however you can use a higher version (trial) to load tubes and save them as .png files .
Then open them in PSP5 (they will have a black background in place of the transparent sections).
Then do Masks > Load from Alpha Channel and you will then have your tube with transparent background ready for exporting to a tube you can then use.

Other info on exporting and tubes is here:

and

Best thing of course would be to upgrade, I did from my starting PSP8 which I rarely use nowdays.
When changing to the newer version, you do not have to go there exclusively as you can still keep the older version operating til you are ready to change over.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
