Over the years I've had excellent service from my VS 11 Plus. However, I've started having increasing problems with formats and now I've got a camera producing mp4 and AVCHD I feel it is time to move on. The question is to what?
Looking at Amazon I see that the new VS X8 Pro costs £52 whereas the VS X7 Pro is only £28. Would I really need the X8 as opposed to the X7? I'm a fairly basic user. Every few months I join together a number of family photos and video clips (plus the occasional wedding or party) to produce a DVD. At a push I could probably get away with a free package such as Windows Movie Maker but I like the extra facilities that come with a commercial package. For example, every now and then I want to lighten a too dark clip, or crop a section out of it or add or remove some audio. I also found the templates that came with VS 11 Plus a real time saver and burning a DVD couldn't be much easier - I've had a well over 95% success rate.
So, would VS X7 Pro be my best choice? If it lasted me as long as my VS 11 Plus, £28 would be a real bargain!
I also notice that VS X7 Ultra would only be £35 compared to £62 for VS X8 Ultra. However, looking at the comparison table for VS X7 Pro and VS X7 Ultra the only advantage of the Ultra would seem to be a special effects pack that I would be unlikely to use.

Yes the only difference between a Pro and a Pro Ultimate programme are the special effects added to the package - apart from that the two are identical
have a read of the attachment as only you can decide whether the new functions in X8 make it worth more than X7 to you

Thanks for the reply.
1) It's now quite clear that I don't need Ultra, so that option can go.
2) Looking at the comparison, I'd say that I'm not going to need all of these extra features in X8, so I'll probably go for X7. I'll also have a look at some of the Youtube tutorials to see what X7 can do in practice.

Good way to go. You can always move up to X8 later. I work with the audio a lot so "Audio Ducking" is a very useful addition for me but X7 is a good stable starting block.Berzelius wrote:Thanks for the reply.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

For the extra £7 I would purchase the Ultimate X7, There is a stabilisation package Mercalli that works very well, you never know when you need to reduce that camera shake.Berzelius wrote:Thanks for the reply.

I agree with lata. Whether you get X7 or X8, the Ultimate addons are a bargain if you use 1/10 of them (and yes, Mercalli wowed me when I first used it). And Boris Graffiti and ProDAD Handscript seem like really good titling additions to the built-in ones (which are admittedly pretty extensive as well)
