Beginner! Removing Shadows

Post by bcwoods12 »

This is the first editing software I have ever used. I have some pictures that have shadows around the subject. Any suggestions on how to remove them. Please remember I have no idea what I doing..

Hi bcwoods12,
if you remove the shadow, you need to replace it with something else.
Could you send a sample of what you mean by "shadows around the subject"?
Best regards,

I presume you mean flash shadow from takingh a picture of a person close to a wall or something similar and you need to remove or reduce the sharp shadow on one side of the subject.
You have not stated which version of PSP you have. More information is better when asking for help with a problem.
Without seeing a sample and based just on guess work I would probably use the Clone brush.
IN PSP X7 this is the 8th one down the left hand side or use the shortcut key (C) - letter C. (I presume you have not customised the workspace to rearrange the brushes / tools to suit you yet). It is just above the Paint Brush.
You can hit the F10 key to show the Learning Centre which will telly you how to use the Clone Brush. Practise on a copy of your image first if the image is really important (hit Shift D to duplicate) .
You tube has some videos as well showing this.

You can ignore the beginning and start at 3.19 where the presenter starts on the clone brush.
You will need to do a lot of experimenting to find the effects the tool options along the top which will say Presets, Shape, Size. Hardness, Step, Density... through to continuous, Aligned Mode and Smart Edge.
This video explains more about using the clone brush with PSP X6 which is similar to X7
