Hi Guys,
I am a new user of ASP2 trying to migrate from Apple Aperture 3. I have a library of more than 40k images in my fast USB3.0 external hard drive organized in folders by year/month/day.
I created a new catalog containing all images and ASP2 already processed all previews. However, every time I scroll down quickly in thumbnail view, it page scroll takes around 20 seconds to render the group of images. This happens even when I scroll back to thumbnails that were already loaded and seen before. In background CPU usage on my Mac shows ASP2 is using 120% of my CPU, even when I am not scrolling or playing with any image. It's worth mentioning that I played with the Performance and Hardware acceleration options under preferences and tuned them up to use the max CPU and Graphic card as possible. But still, it didnt help at all performance wise.
I tried to create a smaller catalog containing only 15k images and the problem persists... It's a clean install of ASP2 with no plugins installed.
I am using a registered copy of ASP2 2.1.2.10 64 bit on a Macbook Pro 15"retina display with 16GB of Ram and 500GB SSD with the latest copy of MacOS installed.
Any help would be appreciated. I really like the app, but it's has been impossible to work with it.
Aftershot 2 Pro is extremely slow

Reset to default and check again...carlosecpf wrote:It's worth mentioning that I played with the Performance and Hardware acceleration options under preferences and tuned them up to use the max CPU and Graphic card as possible.
Also, is your catalog on the USB drive or on the SSD?
cheers

You might also want to look at the log file (Use help-> system information to find the location) while AS is running (open terminal and then run tail -f WhatEverTheLogFileIs)

Re: Aftershot 2 Pro is extremely slow
It worked like a charm! Now ASP is very responsive and it is not a CPU hog any more.afx wrote: Reset to default and check again...
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
I have even added back all my 40k pictures to one unique catalog. When I select the "Show subfolder option" on the root folder in the my catalog, ASP pro takes only 5 seconds to preview a set of 49 thumbnails in "Thumbnail view" at any point I click on the scroll bar. Very fast when compared to 20+ seconds that I had to wait before. However, for some reason, continuous scrolling renders the thumbnails instantly. I would love to have that same instant effect when randomly clicking at any point on the scroll bar, like I had in Aperture 3.
Is there anyway to speed up further the previewing of thumbnails?

I don't think you can do much about that, it is not instant on my Hex i7.

Re: Aftershot 2 Pro is extremely slow
Well, I have downloaded the 32bit version now and have used it instead the 64bit one.
All I can say it is WAY faster now!! It's almost instant. I am really surprised. I will stick with the 32bit version for now.
thanks again!

Re: Aftershot 2 Pro is extremely slow
Oh! and there is another lesson learned to share: do not play with the "Performance" or "Hardware acceleration" options. Whenever I tried increasing ASP performance using this options, it got extremely slow. Just wonder why those options are available...

Re: Aftershot 2 Pro is extremely slow
They can be used depending on your specific hardware setup and can make the AS faster in some circumstances or make it more conservative with system resources when running many resource hungry applications in parallel.
