PSPX7 Ultimate Rotate Right/Left fails

Post by barnetjohn »

Load image, select Rotate Right or Left and I get the message 'The attempted operation is not valid in the current program state'. Performing the equivalent operation via Free Rotate works fine. User is non-privileged - Rotate Right and Left work fine when run under admin user.

Seems to have happened since service pack installed a week or so ago.

Any ideas before I un/reinstall?

No problem on my side (X7 64bit, service pack installed).
Left, right and free work fine.

Thanks - I was afraid of that.

Quickest solution will be to reinstall and see what happens!

Before reinstalling try resetting; that has cured many ills for me. Save the workspace, hold the shift key while starting the program.

I don't know if this makes sense but try resetting the standard toolbar under right-click/Customize/Toolbars.

Thanks for the suggestion - I've already done a reinstall, with very confusing results. Previously, I'd only installed the 64-bit version. This time I did both. The 64-bit still fails. Using the 32-bit version - no problem!

I've also done two test installs on a spare machine: time #1 32 and 64-bit failed, time #2 both worked! The answer appears to lie in a combination of PSPUX7, Service Pack 1, Visual c++ Redist 2008, its Service Pack and VC++ Redist 2012 and, more importantly, the order they're installed (complication - the 'production' machine also has VC++ Redist 2010!). As the 32-bit version is fine (and Free Rotate works anyway), I'm shelving any further work for now - the machine concerned is down for replacement shortly anyway and I'll see what happens then.

Though I may just try a reset as it's quick . . .

Weird.

Uninstalling often creates more problems than it solves. Always try restoring to default before uninstalling. Uninstalling should be the very last thing to do after everything else has been tried. When you uninstall it does not remove files. You would require a full registry clean of the software and that's not for the faint hearted.
Usually a registry cleaner would help. Reinstalling may not solve the problem.
Very often a problem arises when a workspace has been creaeted. A file can become corrupt which messes up the programme.

Ah. Well. Um. I tried a reset on the 'live' machine's PSP. And, lo, the problem vanished.

Leaves me a bit puzzled about why an install on a clean machine (Win7Pro plus antivirus and Firefox) with no prior Corel or prerequisites gave the same error. And why it happened on 64 but not 32-bit on one machine but both or none on another - though perhaps said unpredictability is a clue to a resetable corruption!). But not puzzled enough to look any deeper into it (unless next time reset doesn't work :) ).

Thanks, trueblue
