Two-Finger Scroll Problem - PSP

Post by gwusiya »

My old version of PSP (6) resizes the image with two-finger scroll instead of scrolling the window in Win 8.1. How do I disengage this? Thanks.

I'm not sure I totally understand what you are describing as I scroll (zoom in and out) with one finger on the middle mouse button. Are you talking about zooming in and out on the image window? If so, try going to the Window menu in PSP and check Tabbed Documents. Now the image should zoom in and out and not the window around it.

If this isn't what you are talking about please try describing with more detail.

Kathy, Thanks for your replay. First, there is a main window that holds the the menu bar, status bar, and tool bar, etc. Second, each image opened or created in the main window is held by its own individual window, with the window sized to the image's size and the image's file name at the top of this interior window. If I two-finger scroll vertically on my laptop's clickpad while an image is selected, this causes the window holding that image to zoom in or out, leaving the main window unchanged. This is irritating because two-finger scrolling moves the main window up or down in every application that I use -- Chrome, Word, Flash, text editing and PDF programs, etc. Also, I just noticed that the main window in this old version of PSP does not even have a scrollbar when run under Windows 8.1 which means that if an image extends below the screen, the only way to reposition it is to grab and drag its frame. These problems did not exist in Windows 7, and I want to say that they did not exist when I first started using Windows 8.1 in early 2014, which makes me think that I changed a setting, although I do not want to restore the system -- the problem is not important enough for me to go through all of that, and besides, it is not a program that I use all of the time. I just thought I might find the fix here. Also, the option that you suggest under the Window menu is not available in this version. Again, thanks.

From reading a bit more it appears you have PSP6 (not X6) . And you have images in windowed mode (Tabbed mode was not available til later).
You are using a touchpad rather than a mouse and want to scroll up and down the image (or sideways) rather than zooming in and out. This zoome in and out is a feature of PSP that so many love, but with much forethought the Jasc programmers allowed other modes.
I have only been able to check this on PSP7 so hopefully it is the same in PSP6.

Go to File > Preferences > General Program Preferences and select the Viewing Tab.
There you can change the effects of the zoom image window , but I am not sure that that will change the effects of your "two finger scrolling"

Hartpaul, you have correctly stated the problem. Thanks. Also, PSP6 did provide zooming settings in the viewing tab of General Program Preferences. Unfortunately, those settings provide only for fitting (or not fitting) the window to the image when zooming in or out. It appears that the same script that triggers zoom from the View menu on the main menu bar somehow got incorporated into the Synaptics touchpad, or clickpad as it is called in my system. The problem disappears when I disable two-finger scrolling in the Synaptics settings, but of course, it then becomes disabled across applications. In any event, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. But again, I appreciate your willingness to help.
