Also the reviewer basically agrees with those asking "why do you need 100 tracks": ....I can't really see a consumer video production (or even many pro projects) needing more.
Be sure, I did. Under CONS, the reviewer wrote "Only 20 video overlay tracks". Got it? Also, the reviewer mentioned that another product is faster and audio handling is better.
And again, I never said I needed 100 video tracks! I just said only 4 audio tracks are far not enough for me. Having more is my WISH (and I am not alone, TonyP wished that as well). If you do not need it, it is okay. But what are your wishes? This is the place to mention them.

Maybe then, you are using the wrong product, Adobe premiere Elements will give you 100 video tracks and as many audio tracks as you need, BUT you do not get any of the proDAD filters or Boris Graffiti included as standard, and Motion Tracking in VS is far superior to Adobe, when beta testing PRE13, I advised Adobe that Motion Tracking was inferior, but they were unable to improve their version, deferred until later. On the other hand Slow motion is much better in PRE than in VS.
Also VS is very slow rendering compared with other NLEs, but that has been an ongoing issue with Corel.
I use both programs, because they each have unique features that I like, but first choice is VS, overall it is much easier to use.

It is a matter of what is more important to you, do you want more audio tracks or the additional filters provided by Corel, Whist I have no need for more than 4 Audio tracks, there are times when a few more overlay tracks would have been useful, but as I use proDAD and Boris, VS for me.

In line with their previous mixing of VS and Pinnacle Studio, Corel could add the "unlimited" track option to the next Ultimate version of VS.
I expect VS and PS to "come together" over the next year if, for no better reason, it will reduce the programming time and cost on two independent products. It has already happened with ScoreFitter.
I see one amalgamated video editing program emerging in time.

Perhaps we should all download the Pinnacle Studio freebe and take the best bits as suggestions in this post!
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

A better library

I think there needs to be subfolders in the library. This seems like it should be such a simple addition. I am trying to do a highlight video for an entire Minor Hockey season, and it takes forever to scroll through all my media. I don't want to make too many folders though, because in earlier versions of VideoStudio I actually reached a maximum # of folders.

I have thought the same thing when I saw the same screen recorder in PS17 as in VSP. And then, the leveraging of NewBlue into PS18 since NB has already been a part of VSP. Getting rid of Smartsound saves them money. I've thought of there possibly being only one editing program, but they are different in a lot of ways. VSP is easier to get up and running and making great videos. PS18 has a learning curve with a lot of editing tools (and editing bugs in the software too). In the end, Corel is about making money. I thought when they bought Pinnacle, they would kill it. But they spent $15million on it, finalized PS16 (really already developed Avid Studio 2.0), came out with PS17 (first release a disaster of epic proportions), and now PS18 64bit.

While they did say they wanted to keep the product lines separate, I am starting to see the slow migration of "parts" of each of them happening. They both have their strong points, but editing entirely with different interfaces.

Time will tell. Pinnacle has their release at the end of November usually. We'll see how much more there is in common between them then.

Actually there are 3 video programs in the Corel stable: VS, Pinnacle and Roxio. Each has something to offer that is missing in the others. Eventually though I can see one program emerging from that combination.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9 - Ability to Add Subfolders

Post by jdowney »

Hi,

Please add a simple windows function: ADD the ability to create sub-libraries within libraries. In other words SUB-FOLDERS to help with organization of larger number of clips within a folder etc.

Thank you

Jeff

PS: I have been asking for this simple functionality for over 10 YEARS. It seems that there was an attempt to add subfolders for Titles in X8 Ultimate - Why not ALL folders/libraries????

Here is my wish list...

1. Multi-camera - Auto sync on audio. Show shots from all cameras simultaneously in the preview window with easy way to build the project by selecting from different cameras while viewing in the preview window. Way to normalize the colors, lighting, white balance, etc. across the different camera clips used in the project to make them more consistent.

2. Improved Fast Flicks - Give option of building photo or video project. If a video project, don't force into a template, but rather provide options for the desired pace/mood of project, add music, and then construct a project from the selected clips. Synchronize the clip lengths with the beat of the music, don't just make all of the clips the same length. Allow the clips to be in sequential or random order (a lot like Pinnacle 11 used to work!)

3. Expand Auto Music - Add more music to select from (maybe some rock and country?). Higher quality sound.

4. Sub-libraries - Be able to add at least one level of sub-libraries in the library.

5. Locate in Library - If right click on clip in project, add a "locate in library" option similar to "locate on computer".

6. Locate in Project - If right click on a clip in the library that is used in the current project, add a "locate in project" option similar to "locate on computer.

If X8 had these, I would have upgraded in a minute!

Hi Guys
Wish lists are good ideas if the boards admin could get someone from Corel marketing or one of the powers that be at Corel to come onto the forum and as one of the admins would even be better.
As of December 2013, Corel went through another one of its re-structuring in that the entire engineering and quality assurance team in its Taipei office was terminated, Corels Taipei office was the core development centre for Paint Shop Pro and the Video Studio products.
This 2013 re-structuring has sadly led to a complete handover for the products development and is now being outsourced to OTHER companies. So until someone can convince Corel to join the user forum proactively so our wishes could be passed on to those outsourced companies then all thoses wishes will remain just that "wishes"
So Corel has become just like a new car salesmen  selling products with their name commonly called rebadging to products made by 3rd parties.
Cheers

Outsourcing is something a lot of companies are now doing. And doing it off shore to usually a low bid contract. The problem I have with it is that the "new" people will have to learn the code and start adding to it without breaking "something".
I think this is why some features are difficult to get into VS because of the amount of time (and money) it would take to code into the program.
I thought Motion Tracking and sub titling were good additions to the program. I am not too keen on new transitions (I use basically cuts and fades) and other "bling".
Hopefully, where ever the program is now, that they get a handle on it, fix issues posted and offer something truly "new" for X9, with as much backwards compatibility as possible with plugins already in the program.
I would rather have a stable, fast editor than a ton of "bling".

Development of PaintShop Pro and Aftershop pro has been moved to Corel's head office in Canada and senior members of those teams are frequent visitors and posters to those forums on here - taking and giving feedback.

As far as I know the development team for VideoStudio is still with the old Ulead people in Tapei - the server for these forums is still there also - it's just that we have very infrequent visits or posts from the VideoStudio team although some of them are members here

Yeah and at least with Ulead you had no problems with contacting or getting a quick answer from Uleads tech support to a problem or a bug for one of the products you purchased unlike Corel and their BS 30 day only free warranty support who a quite adept of reminding you with an email
Dear Corel Customer,
We hope you are enjoying your product! We would like to remind you that your free warranty service is due to expire in 5 days.
In order to extend your coverage, you should consider our valuable Premium Training & Support Plan. You’ll get exclusive access to our product experts with unlimited first-in-line phone support, personalized One-on-One Training on any topic of your choice, unlimited access to product webinars and peace of mind with complete software back-up protection
.  :P
Be nice to see them add a poll on those emails to gauge how many people are happy with their Corel experience.
The only problem Corel doesn’t seem to have is taking your money so they can afford to buyout other graphic media software development companies.
I have never dealt with such an unapproachable company once they have your money other than a bank.

Right click on a text track and be able to select "remove animation." The problem arises when a Lorem Ipsum item is taken to a text track. Later on, if you wish to create a new text item the Lorem Ipsum format repeats. It would be nice to select the text track item, right click and remove the animation. However, one must now engage animation, under attribute, and remove the animation check mark. This can happen under other circumstances as well. A simple right click remove would be more efficient.
