Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
That is because there is NO such output option - nearest option is "SD Card" - but there is NO option for USB stick

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
Simply create a Video_TS folder on your computer and then copy that folder to a USB. Of course you will not be able to play it on any TV since there are no TV that can play the Video_TS folder on a USB.Luna Esterhuizen wrote:No I don't want to do so, but can you perhaps tell me where the output options in VS are I had a look once again but can't find it. Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
I am loving x8 so far, but I already see a few items I can contribute:
(edited to add a couple more)
but competitor 'pro-sumer' level editing products already have most of the above - especially the Preview that isn't super-duper-pooper-choppy...I wonder why VSP can't be as smooth as other products for Previewing (the loss of quality in the Preview is understandable)?
On a Personal Note, I scoured the Forums for all past posts and tried everything, for the Preview problem. I even made Proxies of 320x240 resolution and still it did nothing for the Preview performance. All imported material is usually 1080p AVC/AAC. I tried setting the Project Properties and Proxy to match and it was still choppy in the Preview. Perhaps it is something with Windows 10 (which I recently upgraded to)? I'm still investigating/Troubleshooting this one...
Perhaps they could allow adjusting of the Preview Quality (for example, in a competitor product, there is an ability to select much lower quality Preview output; but this allows Previewing of even applied Effects much more smoothly).
Idea for Preview Performance: Dynamic Ram Preview ("borrowed" concept from Sony Vegas product line) where you can tell VSP to 'build' a preview of the selected portion directly (and only into) RAM, which would then be viewable in 'full speed' as a temporary "Live" project playback preview
Despite all of the above I am still enjoying VSPx8 and learning about everything it can do - which is a lot for the price point it is at!
I have to add to the above list, my compliments for how feature-rich and capable VSPx8 is, as is!
I am having a lot of fun learning and trying everything. The ease-of-use of many functions is fantastic, and some really high-end-looking productions can no doubt be made with VSP if the time is put into it. A great job by the devs.
Some video editing products I have used over the years:
(mostly consumer and pro-sumer level)
Sony's Vegas product line (off and on since 6), CyberLink's PowerDirector (8 onward), Nero Video, played with Canopus Edius in the past and LightWorks a bit recently, and various 'little guy' software, such as VirtualDub, AviDemux and of course Windows Movie Maker
(edited to add a couple more)
- More video tracks
(this can be worked around by pre/re-rendering over and over, for now) - Ability to name Tracks
for organization - More audio tracks
(this can be worked around by pre/re-rendering over and over, for now) - More fonts
(many were included with Packs found on the Website, which was nice) - Ability for gradient text
(can be worked around by doing the task with filters for now (and NewBlueTitler), but the ability to simply choose two colours to fill 2D text would be nice) - Ability to resize tracks
(perhaps a toggle so users don't accidentally do it - moving those teeny control nodes in Mixing Mode requires a magnifying glass
) - Agree on the Audio Meter levels
(the waveform is nice in Mixing Mode for now) - Preview optimization ..for some reason, the CLIP playback mode is GPU-accelerated but the PROJECT playback mode is not GPU-accelerated..
(and it is very slow/choppy with only a few effects - the final rendering comes out fine of course)
which leads into - Rendering optimization
(poor little VS is the slowest in many reviews online)
I personally found that if I added a few NewBlueTitler text elements, my rendering time took 8 hours for a 3-minute project...
(but with just the regular 2D Titles, it was 'normal' Rendering time) - 60fps capture for the ScreenCap module
(30fps is good enough for Tutorials and Business-related material, but for games and other fast-motion material, it ends up looking quite choppy when compared to a screen recorder capable of 60fps+ capture). On another note, the optimization for the WMV capture is great - the Quality for it is fantastic! - Ability to Disable the Countdown for the ScreenCap module
(For more immediate starting of the capture process - as an option though, so that those that want the pause/countdown can still utilize it) - Ability to Zoom in on Filters to see effects/differences while editing the Filter
(this is for the Filters where there is simply a 'Original' left side and a 'Preview' right side) - Click-editing of Chapter Points
(being able to right-click and delete/edit the Points on the Timeline) - Allow more than one Instance
- Alpha Channel Output and/or PNG Output with Alpha Channel
but competitor 'pro-sumer' level editing products already have most of the above - especially the Preview that isn't super-duper-pooper-choppy...I wonder why VSP can't be as smooth as other products for Previewing (the loss of quality in the Preview is understandable)?

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
When you say "more video tracks" X8 already has 21 - how many more were you thinking
Audio tracks - yes could do with more than the current 4
Fonts used come from your fonts folder on your hard drive - if you need more fonts download them from the many free sites around the internet and install them in your 'fonts' folder
Tracks can already be resized just set up your own default layout and save it for all future uses - you could have something like this

For fonts, I meant packaged ones to come with the application. Perhaps I am 'spoiled' by programs in the past, but I have come to somewhat expect a batch of Fonts (usually specialized ones, not just the average Windows-type inclusions), especially when purchasing a "premium" package of a program.BrianCee wrote:When you say "more video tracks" X8 already has 21 - how many more were you thinking

It's not something terribly important, you are both correct, most Fonts are part of the System and can be obtained outside of the program - it was just a nice added value to see on products a list or statement of a nice set of Fonts (either for the pure size value ("includes 200 free fonts!") or for the specialized approach to marketing ("cinematic-themed fonts", etc)).
As for Tracks, I think 40 tracks should be fine and most home users won't need more than that for years to come. I often 'hit the limit' with the 20 that Sony [and now Corel] offers, while competitors offer 100 tracks - and that's directly one of the reasons I gave that company my money. I use that editor for a final compilation on larger projects as nothing else offers offers that many at this price range.
Thanks for the tip about enlarging the Timeline area, BC - I'm going to do that!
I was speaking more of alternating sizes of Tracks for organization (the lesser-important tracks would be thinner) and for the waveform usage (it depicts a graphic representation but then doesn't give a lot of room to manipulate the nodes on top of it, heh) and for Workflow.
Again, not an important thing, none of these are a "can live without" deal - they are all just things that could make the program better...
and in the end contribute to selling more units, too - as a Canadian, I am happy to see a Canadian company successful, keep it up!

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
Fix the ability to burn a "proper" DL dvd.
DL DVDs are considerably cheaper (and more compatible) than bluray disks.
For example, if I have a project with say 6gb of HD AVCHD video files and I insert a DL DVD, VS will burn it but at the same lower resolution (VHS tape) as if I had used the "fit" option with a standard 4.7gb dvd. Other software, such as Cyberlink, works correctly. Correctly simply means the DVD is at least SD quality.
I just use whatever defaults either Cyberlink or VS gives me.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
I would like to see the Audio Ducking changed to be more like Auto Duck in the Audacity program. Auto Duck gives far more control than Audio Ducking of the rate of volume change and the depth of the volume reduction.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
I think there is already all the functionality that a "consumer" user would want. We are very fortunate to have this program!
What I would like to see is a bit more thought and development on the editing phase. For example, the FX screen (which is very valuable, when I'm applying FX), I would like to tuck away and not have constantly reappear when I am doing something else and not applying FX to individual clips.
Having all of the interface appear in grey and black shades may be one version of video-cool, but I would like to colour different tracks so I can spot them easily; and for the same reason have the numbering/icons of the tracks appear in a LARGE and colourful font, with the possibility of entering a (visible) track-name.
I would like all scroll-buttons to stand out, and work smoothly and effectively across their ranges, and the essential tool-tip pop-ups to work dependably and consistently.
A nudge feature would be great.
Having the names of the media items show (in LARGE titling) in the monitor panel, in CLIP mode would be great; also a pop-up box (colour background please) with this info as well as attributes such as source/start/end position, when you mouse over an item.
After right-clicking on an edited clip, I would like an option to save it in the library. It would be nice to define projects by name within the library. It would be nice to have a listing by track of the media items one has within the project.
Currently, the vertical icon-menu between top two panels cuts off at bottom without indication if you lift the horizontal border of the track panel. Perhaps that should be a pop-out floater menu...
Not complaining! I have nothing but praise and admiration for the ulead/corel super-programmers who developed/ work on this suite. Just saying what would be better for me.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
Can we assume you are aware that under File you can save an edited video by using "Save Trimmed Video", and a thumbnail of it will appear in the library window. You can also highlight a clip in the timeline and drag and drop it in the library window. Or are you just wanting the Save feature included in the right click menu?krm wrote:After right-clicking on an edited clip, I would like an option to save it in the library.
Not sure what you mean here. When you create a new project, don't you assign it a name? And when you want to open another project, don't you first click on File and look down at the bottom of the drop-down menu where the last four projects are listed by name?It would be nice to define projects by name within the library.

Re: Wishlist for VideoStudio X9
Thanks, Ken B. I recently discovered "Save Trimmed Video" under File, to my delight. Glad it exists, but yes, I am just looking at usage patterns, and right-clicking (at least in the Win world) is a good additional place to have that command. I was not aware of the drag option, that is as good.
I have also just located the answer to the item that was not clear to you, re project naming. What I was carping about is already there - I wanted to be able to name a project folder within the library panel, to keep all my project-related trimmed clips together. This can be done by cleverly clicking "Add" immediately right of the File icon in the central vertical icon-menu.
Cheers!

Instead of having dedicated Video and Audio tracks it would be good to have say, 100 tracks and let the user allocate the number of video and audio tracks. Users can have all the 100 tracks for video or audio or in any proportion as may suit them.
