Re: Upgrades to X8
I am in agreement with Terfyn, Brian and others who will not bother with VSL. What I did notice, looking at the VSX8 tutorials currently displayed, they are too long, Tutorials are best if they are kept to 5-6 mins, that way it is easier to remember the actions required, with 15 min videos, users do not want to be bombarded with too much information at once.
I will stay with Gripps Youtube channel, which is more than just VS, and Brians tutorials, they are very easy to understand and are free.
I have in the past used lynda.com, yes it is more expensive than VSL, but the range of tutorials available is vast and covers most of the products I will ever use.

Re: Upgrades to X8
By your understanding, if I think a movie is good and recommend it, I must be working for the movie producer. If I think a particular camera is good and recommend it, I must be working for that company too. If I recommend VSP, I must be working for Corel. You get the idea....Terfyn wrote:Well Mr TonyP you really show yourself to be strongly biased to this site. You claim no personal interest but this is now clearly untrue. Why show so much support for a site if you have no personal connection? Very suspicious.
As you have read in my post, I mentioned where I have Gripps bookmarked. And yes, they are free and done very well.Corel have always supplied basic tutorials with their software and these are free as are the super tutorials from Brian and Gripps.
Name one thing where I have attacked "you" or anyone. I challenge you. It has been you on the other hand that has been accusatory in your comments. You seem to be spending a lot of time attacking anyone who suggests this site is not worth the money - why should we pay if there is no value to us Corel users who have "been round the block" a few times - how insulting. I suggest you "declare your interest" or keep quiet.
You did say you saw nothing of value there. That is "you". I listed a lot of things that are of value to "me" and might be to others. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head here to subscribe or even go there. I only posted that it's free for X8 users for 45 days. F R E E. They did not offer anything of interest to "you". The training is basic. Yes, it is. Will it always be? As Brian said, time will tell. But Corel thought enough of this site to let them do their training videos. Corel. So, I figured, Corel might (or might not) know what they are doing. Burn up your 45days downloading the material or not. I always prefaced that for "me" I think it's a great value. That part always seemed to have escaped your reading. For "you", obviously, the place is not useful for you. I did reply with a host of features the site offered that might be of interest to others. If not of an interest to you or anyone else, it's no problem for me. I do not make any money or get anything for free from them. Just as when I recommend VSP, and extoll how easy it is to use and what you can do with it. Corel does not send me a royalty check for each person that buys because of my recommendation.
I hope you see the irony of your argument.....
@RobertOZ, you subscribe to a site because it provided what you needed and covered the products you used. What is the difference between what you did and what I or anyone else is doing now? Would you recommend that site if you knew other people might have an interest in it?
I am really amazed on how recommending something that no one has to buy has been so roundly put down. Where you have access to material and training for free to download or watch within the time frame of either 7 days or 45 days. Wow. No credit card needed either to register on this site. Not like others that require it.

Pinnacle Studio - and don't go around "challenging" people, it very childish.

Its not free, after 45 days you are expected to pay.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Upgrades to X8
Reading comprehension is not one of your strong suits I see. You still haven't answered where I attacked "you". But that's ok because it never happened.
And I only mentioned either 7 days (which is free if you have been following the thread), and 45 days, which is also free to X8 purchasers. Nowhere in my post did I mention after those specified time limits that it was free. No where in any of my threads did I say this too. I used the word "subscribe" more than one time for any time period after those mentioned. Please read what I write before in take things out of context and spin it your way, which is the wrong way. Thanks for italicizing my words... it further demonstrates and verifies what I said.

Re: Upgrades to X8
I purchased VSX7Ultimate on the 12th of Feb and have been going through Corel trying to get free upgrade first they said were in the process of automated letters then after my comments said it was not in release as marketing are still polishing the product. After pointing out that indeed I was able to purchase VSX8 Ultimate upgrade for AU$74.00 this was there reply last night.
Thank you for contacting Corel Customer Support.
Thanks for the response and I respect your point of view. As with all of our upgrades, our marketing team does not provide a free upgrade. Before when VS X7 was launched, there was a technical upgrade that cost (if my memory serves me right) around $25 forthose who bought VS X6 15 days before the release of VS X7. Historically, there is no free upgrade only technical/discounted upgrades.
Please allow me to clarify what I meant by polish. Currently VS X8 is being offered to customers with VS X7. If you look at our Corel website, all across the region VS X8 is not yet being offered yet (I have attached a screenshot of the various regions), this is because it is not being officially released yet. You are one of the lucky ones to have received the IPM (In product Messaging - the window that opens when you close VS X7). Our marketing team are still considering other offers and options before they release the product across the globe.
Hope this gives insight. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
Thanks and have a good one!

Yasser

So Corel do not give free upgradesd you have to pay in additon, they also donot advise of when and if the next RC version is imminent.
I remember when Corel took over from Ulead and posted this was a dark day you buy a product and only get free support for that product for 30 days from purchase even if there are confirmed bugs (which 99% of time with Corel seems to be the case) so when is a product considered released to me it would appear to be when you are able to purchase it or as Corel say not until the whole world can buy that product more BS from Corel

Re: Upgrades to X8
Hi Guys it looks like persistance and shooting down some of their claims works received this reply after my last comments
I'm Robby, supervisor for Corel Support Services. I'm contacting you as your case was escalated to me by Yasser.
We recently had a pre-launch campaign for VideoStudio X8 for customers with VideoStudio X7. This message is available through the messaging service within the program, although we haven't released the program in the general market yet.
Having reviewed your records, I'm glad to let you know that we can grant your request for the free upgrade to VideoStudio X8. I'll be sending the download link together with the serial numbers to you via email. However, since VideoStudio X8 is only available through early buyers I cannot send the download link to you until the product launch next month.
I hope this works for you Don.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any further questions.
Regards,
Robby

Hi Budda_357
Well today 26th February Corel Video Studio X8 was advertised on their site as being available for purchase, I assume from anybody.
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/
So you should not have to wait a month, I would not have thought.

Oh yes, I do. Didn't notice it since I have a lot of icon clutter on my desktop. I'm not used to software putting desktop icons without giving the option not to do so (which I always elect, preferring to get them from the start menu or program group), but in this case it appears that the Studio Backlot link is ONLY on the desktop. Thanks for the pointer.BrianCee wrote:Do you not have a new icon on your desktop tanguero (see below) to take you to the VideoStudio log-in

Re: Upgrades to X8
Yes I received the download links today and keys with this message added:
Budda, please note that since this product is given to you gratis, your copy of VideoStudio X7 would need to be uninstalled from all the computers it is installed into. The serial number that came with it will also be disabled.
Thank you very much and I hope that you enjoy your new copy of VideoStudio X8!
In addition to your free upgrade to VideoStudio X8, I am also giving you the Full Retail version serial number.

If it is the retail version lic key then this would not affect VS7 Ultimate upgrade install if it was installed anyway I would have thought? I have not even installed VSX7 Ultimate as yet.
And previous versions did not to be online to install upgrades and activate only needed a particular previous versions license keys.
In addition VSX8 now comes as 2 downloads unlike VSX7 there is a separate 32 and 64bit downloads the strange observation is that the 32bit looks like is Pro version as the 64bit has Ultimate in the file name?
As with VSX7 they had on the pdf comparison chart listed the 32bit and 64bit the same way Pro was 32bit and Ultimate is 64bit but both versions in one download that assume you chose if you want to install either the 32 or 64bit on a 64bit OS.
From the way of the message the VSX7 key has been disabled which makes me think that now you have to be online before you can install activate VSX8 unlike previous versions that only needed previous versions keys and the upgrade key does anybody know if this is indeed the case before I perform any installs? It must have been a global relase as the Aussie web site now displays VSX8 for sale.
