Hello,
I have the Windows version of Paint Shop Pro X7 Ultimate.
Thanks so much for taking my question into consideration. I did search the topics, and I was unable to find the same question from another user. If I missed it, I apologize.
I am very happy with the software, except for one thing that I can't quite figure out. As it imports the files which are .ORF RAW files, the software automatically tries to adjust the image, and invariably makes them worse. I would simply like to defeat the automatic adjustment and view each file exactly as I shot it, before I sort the images and select images to be Paint Shopped.
This is my workflow:
From the Manage tab, I select the drive and folder where the images are stored.
I open the folder
the images appear
the images get adjusted and always darken.
This process does not happen for .JPGs... so I am guessing that the decoding for .ORF or may the specific lenses are not quite well defined.
At any rate I would like to disarm this feature. Or possibly fix it so it does not darken the images.
I wonder if I did not change a default setting, and perhaps I created this monster by myself.
I have clicked around the software, read the manual and yet I still can't defeat the automatic adjustment.
I appreciate your valuable time and your kind consideration.
Regards,
Steve

Re: Defeating automatic adjustment of images
I use both ASP and PSP. I far prefer ASP for raw files.
I believe you are referring to the thumbnail views (and preview?) in Manage. Image editing is done in Adjust (which I avoid) and Edit; there is no editing capability in Manage other than Instant Effects, which should be avoided in Manage and used only in the other two modes, and the capability to apply completed edits from one image to others. So, as far as I can tell, what you see is Corel's attempt to render a thumbnail or preview from the raw file. I normally shoot raw but with a different camera so my thumbs are rendered differently than yours. I have the impression that the appearance of my raw files in Manage is better now than it was a few years ago, so perhaps they did some work on that rendering engine. But I don't worry about it because what matters to me is how ASP handles the raw files.
What is the quality of JPGs from PSP X7? Are you happy with that?

Re: Defeating automatic adjustment of images
Mark,
Thanks so much for your reply. It appears that I still need to do some digging. When I convert the images to jpg, they retain that darkened tone.
For the images that I have corrected, I am pleased with the jpg conversion, but I am a very, very beginner and my opinion is not to be considered as anything more than a casual observance.
Best Regards,
Steve
