Is Protexis or any DRM on VSUltimate x7 and PSPx6???

I cannot find an adequate forum to post this question so I am posting here because of a similar thread I have asked a question on. I have never received an answer, or a reply of any sort, on that question and now I have entered into a different (but yet somewhat associated) problem relative to that question.

This morning upon starting up my computer (Win 7 Professional) it 'automatically' went into a "chkdsk". Yesterday I noticed that the VSUlitmate x7 desktop icon was a windows 'default' icon and not the Corel icon. BUT, the program still started. Now I am wondering if the Corel licensing software has finally caught up with me and is causing problems.

I am having to consider purchasing a new SSD and a new install of Win 7 Professional on it. Once completed with the OS install I am wondering the following. When I go to install Corel VSUltimate x7 and PSP x6 will those two programs be installing any licensing software - particularly Protexis? Are there any safeguards that I need to be aware of? Is there anything that I should do with my current install relative to licensing from Corel? I think Protexis got onto my system back when I used to have PSP x3. I have been trying to get Protexis off of my system or disabled. But now, since the chkdsk, I am wondering about a whole new OS install on a new SSD.

Please do not lock this thread. I am trying desperately to solve a present problem and prevent a future problem with Corel licensing.

On the odd occasion when someone from Corel visits it is for a specific reason to give or get information on one specific subject.

If yu want an answer then please go to the Corel website and raise a support ticket - you will need to pay for that by the way

As far as I know Protexis is installed by all Corel products at least Video Studio and Paint Shop Pro.
Earlier versions may install an earlier version of Protexis, so you may see two.
I have not monitored the installation process for many a year but assume the latest versions use Protexis.

I don’t know exactly what Protexis monitors.

I have had no problems installing Video Studio including Protexis, other than testing, messing about…..
Then I simply uninstalled both, then re-installed.

I don’t understand why your Corel icon changed nor why “chkdsc” activated but I doubt if Protexis was the cause unless you removed Protexis.

Removing Protexis will affect the functionality of Corels programs, leave it alone……

I have done a little more digging and cannot find Protexis on my computer, maybe looking in the wrong place?
Certainly it was there for XP, ????

What version of windows do you have installed on your pc?

Found some details, name is now shown as ....Corel License Validation Service V2, Powered by arvato

This service provides license-validation functionality for Corel Corporation.
It is powered by Protexis from arvato digital

Indeed I have it on my XP as
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Protexis\License Service\PsiService_2.exe

and the service is
Corel License Validation Service V2, Powered by arvato

I don't have any problem with it , it takes ~2Mb ram.

When I view Computer Management-Services and Applications - Services I see the item listed under Corel License Validation Service V2.
I am sure it used to be listed as Protexis License…or something similar.

Anyway like you I don’t have a problem.

Dekade seems to indicate that Protexis slows or somehow affects the program????

FWIW, on the computer listed in my details to the right, my Services list Protexis V2. On that computer I have Corel products dating back to Movie Factory 7, PSP X4 and Motion Studio 3D. On my newer Win 8.1 computer, where I only have PSP X7 and VS X7, it shows in Services, like you, as Corel Licence Validation Service V2. So pretty clearly the Protexis nomenclature was inserted by the earlier programs and remains effective on later programs.

But also like you, I have no troubles with it... even if one does not necessarily like the insertion of "stealth" programs like this into software which one has bought legitimately...
