Odd pop up error message

Post by conrail6055 »

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the great resource here! Brand new member here so I tried searching the archives by the error message I'm getting but it yielded no results. I'm a week into using VS Pro X7 and have read the user guide beginning to end. Thought I was ready to dive into my first project. At the end of my "movie" I wanted to add the bottom to top scrolling credits. I compared what steps I needed to do in the user manual against the online tutorial at Corel and am following them to a T but keep getting the same result.

After deleting the clip from the overlay track, I then right click on it to insert video but when I select the VSP file I just created I get a pop up window that states "The File In On Editing" That's no typo either, it actually says the file in on editing. No clue what that is even suppose to mean. Something tells me the tutorial I watched may have been from an earlier version so that may have been the steps needed for said earlier version but I haven't been able to locate the tutorial again to confirm. It was something about Star Wars though!?

I also have encountered one other problem when trying to save the video to a disc. When I get to 3 SHARE, I can only save it to my harddrive. In the top disc burner section, DRIVE is grayed out and simply says NO DEVICE even though I have an external drive connected with a blank dvd in it. The only option I have is to select create disc image in order to save it to the hard drive. I'm sure this is user error but I've dug into it two nights in a row now and still can't figure this one out.

Again, many thanks to all on the board who've posted their problems for others to reference, and to those who take the time to help fellow users! Greatly appreciate it!!

I don't ever remember anyone reporting that particular error message before - and I can't say it makes much sense to me either

but what exactly are you trying to do - it is a very odd procedure to delete a video clip and then try to insert a .vsp - it sounds as though you are trying to put a project file back into the project that created it - I don't understand that.

Can you direct us to the tutorial you were working to - we may be able to decipher what is happening from there.

After you have created an .iso file can you go to "Tools >> Burn from Disc Image" - does the image burner see your disc.

I think Brian hit the nail on the head when he said:
... it sounds as though you are trying to put a project file back into the project that created it
FWIW, I think that strange English message meant to say something like "The file is in editing' or 'that file is being edited'. It may be that through a faulty understanding of what a vsp file is that you are trying to insert the very file you are already editing back into itself. A vsp file, you see, is not a video file. VSP stands for 'video studio project'. It is a small text file telling Video Studio what is in the project you are currently editing, where the video and other files in it are stored, and what editing you have done to it.

The process of inserting a vsp file into a project is called "nesting" but can only be done if you are inserting another project file into the one you are currently editing -- not the current file back into itself while it is still open and being edited. You also need to be aware that once in the timeline, the inserted vsp cannot be further edited within itself.

As for your burner problem, can we assume that Windows detects the external burner drive? In other words, is it only VS which cannot see the drive?

Thanks guys! I was able to find the Corel tutorial that had me creating the file, saving it twice as two different names (for some reason??), deleting it and then re-adding. It is discussed right around the 1:30 mark.

As for the burner, yes it's recognized every time I use it except for when trying to burn through VSP. I'll take a look at it a little more over the weekend.

OK - I see what they are trying to do - the double save seems to be so that you end up with two projects - one just the title and the other a video of the scrolling title - also the title needs to be a video so that you can distort it and using a .vsp like that can look and act like a video

but to me that is messy and not natural - a far better way is to follow this tutorial here :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm4C7yDoiJ4

Do not be confused by the first minute or so he does turn to VideoStudio and show you how to do it there

Gripps is a very well known and respected maker of VideoStudio tutorials and his are often much easier to follow than the Corel ones.
