Need help with the dreaded: "no sound during project"

Post by mbrien »

Videostudio Pro X4
Windows 8.1 64 bit x64 Processor
12.0 GB ram
Sony HDR-PJ540 hi-def camcorder

Ok, I give up, I've been trying to resolve this for days now, and my video production work simply can't wait any longer.

I'm having the same problem a lot of other users are reporting: cannot hear audio when playing "project" but only when playing "clip".

I've scoured through the many posts and suggestions, I do not find a definitive "fix" or solution.

Can someone please post a remedy that can correct this issue? I never used to have this problem ever before.

I've attached a snapshot of the properties of one of my video files. As you can see, shown in the section Audio, Audio Type is: "MPEG AAC Audio".

I tried sharing the file over into a "Microsoft AVI File format" that did not resolve the issue; I tried then sharing it over into MPEG-4 File format; that too didn't resolve the issue.

I tried splitting the audio; I then only can here it when both the Audio track & the Video track are selected (highlighted) but then editing becomes unmanageable.

I tired converting the isolated audio track into some other format (with other programs) and seeing if I could then merge it back into the video track ... that was a clumsily hopeless endeavor.

Is there some bug in the "capture" procedure? or in the program itself? I can click on the video file and Windows Media Player promptly brings it up and plays it with full audio.

Any help directing me towards resolving this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Michael

The only thing I can think of is to suggest another video conversion. My colleague BrianCee has just suggested this to someone else, and though the problem there appeared to be a corrupt video clip, this answer could still apply to your own project:

BrianCee said:
When I have had the odd corrupt file I have found that just putting it through a free converter irons out the glitch - not to convert it to anything but to simply put in an MTS file and output to an MTS with the same properties.

A free converter which many of us have found to do a good job is 'Format Factory' available here :- http://format-factory.en.softonic.com/

just a word of warning - check which boxes are ticked during the download or else the download will try and add programmes to your computer that you do not need.

Thanks much Ken, for that reply.

Well, I am thinking at this point, to inquire if the later (latest?) version of VS definitely and assuredly resolves this issue. If so, I would happily and quickly purchase an upgrade to get going finally.

I don't really want to start messin' around with re-conversions into this or that (geez, never used to have to do that ever before ...)

Can you or someone else point to any reference with (what is it now? ... VS 10?) that describes any technical resolution of this issue?

Thanks so much!! I'll do my own investigating as well, bt any light you might share is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Michael

:::: oh, I see the top version is VS Pro X7 ok, will check out

Am in the process of downloading what I think (and hope ...?) might be a fix (another program)

But needed to ask: will there be any issues anyone knows about importing any of my stored (created, in fact) video files made in VideoStudio Pro X4 into another platform (another program?)

Never tried this before, but video clips saved in VS or anything else are readily "viewable" on another platform? Would anyone know?

Thanks! Michael

Yes of course they are if they are any of the standard video formats like .mpg .avi mp4 etc.

but do not expect to use .vsp files - they are not even video files

FWIW I had trouble running VS x5 Pro on Windows 8.1. No audio problems, just rendering problems. All those problems went away with an upgrade to x7. Of course there's no way to say an upgrade will help you.

Yes, appreciate that comment as I am trying to ascertain if moving to X7 will, in fact, remedy the problem.

I have been trying to get a definitive answer from Corel tech support if it will; I would do the upgrade in an instant if I simply know it would. I am also awaiting some word one way or the other from the folks at "CyberLInk Power Director 13 Ultimate" if that program would indeed offer a trouble-free available audio during all phases of editing.

I would happy shell out whatever's the cost for upgrade or new program to get back and running .. I'm in a terrible time constraint with a production I need to get ready.
Thanks for the info.

Well a quick fix is to download the FREE 30 day trial of VideoStudio X7 and try it out for yourself - no need to uninstall previous versions of VideoStudio just install X7 and it will exist alongside of the previous versions without interfering with them in any way - I currently have five working versions on my PC and can use any one of them (one at a time of course - you cannot have more than one version actually open)

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by testing out the free trial.

Yes, very good thinking! .. at least with VS 7 I won't need to undergo a whole new learning curve like what would happen with another program! Thanks, think I will.

!!!!! Unbelievable! The pro 7 version corrects the problem! (looks like there's two version 7's) ... a pro and an ultimate ,, I did the pro, but yeah anyhow, the problem is fixed now.

Thanks!

Wish I could impart some knowledege here that others (not a few, from my observations) can employ for their own hangup with audio-during-project playback, but sorry .. I have no idea ,,, at any rate version(s) 7 works fine.

Relax! The Pro version is THE programme. The Ultimate version just adds on extra filters and third party programmes such as Boris. So the Ultimate version is an expansion of the Pro version.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

It would also help others if you noted that the programme is called VideoStudio X7

I have corrected many of your previous posts but it does not seem to have registered with you

the X being the roman numeral 10 - so you are talking version 17 now - 7 was a long time ago and very different.

That version number also tells us that service pack 1 is also included in your programme.
