One of the students in my movie class using VS is really getting into it and has decided he wants to upgrade from X7 Pro (bought Nov 14) to X7 Ultimate. However, whilst the Corel website has an upgrade option from immediate prior versions eg X6 to X7, there seems to be no option to upgrade within a version (Pro to Ultimate).
So, has anyone tried this in the past? Or is a more practicable option to upgrade from X7 Pro to X8 Ultimate when it is released some time in the future? And is that approach even allowed?

When VSX8 is released, your student will be able to upgrade from VSX7 Pro to VSX8 Ultimate at a reduced price, whatever that might be

The VideoStudio Pro and the VideoStudio Pro Ultimate programmes are identical
The only difference between them is the plug-ins which come with the Ultimate - Corel have never made those plug-ins available outside of the Ultimate package - your student could buy the add ons independently but last time we checked that cost more than the original programme.
As Robert has said X8 will be released very soon and your student would be able to take up the upgrade price from X7 pro to X8 ultimate.
The upgrade policy is any version of X7 (and X6) qualifies for the reduced price upgrade to any version of X8
Amazon.co.uk are taking advance orders or X8 for despatch on 5th March
