Old versions of PSP
I started using PSP from version 14. I have just started creating scripts and I would like to test my scripts in versions prior to X4. Where can I get legal versions of PSP8 to PSPX3?

Re: Old versions of PSP
If you are using X4 and writing scripts you could make them version independent. Suz Place has a tutorial on how to do this: http://suzsplace.com/tutorials/!VI-vers ... ndex.shtml

I will still have to test the scripts, hence the question.

Re: Old versions of PSP
Not sure why you would want to go back to 8 but psp8 was under JASC that Corel bought out. Those that have a copy wont give it up with the key if they want to use it again at any time. So how would you activate it? Buying it from?
Again with any Corel versions. To activate you'll need to buy it. No idea if Corel would activate anything older then X7. They wont support it if they did. They may go back to X5 but any older would be a problem.
Options are you can just hope the scripts work or you can ask people here to test them for you.

Re: Old versions of PSP
You wouldn't need to test the scripts in older versions if you follow the tutorial and make the script version independent. As the scripts would work in any version! Anyway, why would you want to make scripts for any version beyond X4? X4, X5, X6 and X7 are the only versions Corel will give support to by way of updates. You cannot officially purchase any PSP version other than X7.
Contrary to a previous poster, X7 SP1 is pretty good with lots of nice new features. It's currently on specialy offer and worth the buy. At least, if you have X4 you can get an update but if X8 comes out you probably won't as the most last version would be X5.

Re: Old versions of PSP
I also do scripts, and i understand Nok's concerns. I do have customers who are still using PSP8! Even if Corel only support recent versions, some people still hold on to their very old ones.
Following Suz's recommendations, is a great start, but if scripts are involving more than the basic commands, i can see why Nok would want to test in previous versions. I have had scripts behave differently in some versions so if it is possible to test in those versions, it is a great help. It also helps if a customer is reporting an issue and we want to help with that particular version.
Nok, even if you are to find legal versions of older PSP, you might have issues with activating them (been there, done that).
If you can't find those copies, maybe find testers who are using them who can test for you.

Re: Old versions of PSP
As Cassel says, anything beyond the basics you can potentially have issues with. There are issues between versions of Python, as older versions of PSP used older versions of Python for scripting.
Also commands that were commonly used in older versions were replaced with newer versions. So there are commands in X4 that don't exist in older versions.
There is a lot to consider when making a script backwards compatible. And it always helps to have testers but also to be able to test it yourself.
Personally, and a bit insanely, I install the trial versions of PSP. But because they are just trials and not activated I have to reset my computer to a time before I installed those trials so that I can re-install them. (Technically there are better ways around that but I so rarely test on older versions that it's just an easy way to clean my system up at the same time.)
