VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
On the Boris FX site there is a 6.6.1 update listed for VideoStudio 7. Has anyone downloaded and installed it? I downloaded it, but when I run the installer it asks me to uninstall the previous version first. I'm afraid if I do that, the new version won't be activated.

Where was that advertised? I was not aware of any update for it...

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
It's possible that the update only applies to the fully paid for version of Graffiti 6, which costs $69 for the VSX7 plugin, not the free version included with VSX7. I could not find any updates for the VSX7 free version, and wouldn't any updates need to be provided by Corel, not by Boris direct

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
As far as I can see from that link, there is no mention of Video Studio. The only Corel product mentioned is Pinnacle Studio 18...

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
The file I downloaded is named:
BorisGraffiti6_6forCorelX7_Pinnacle_64Bit_TNB
I emailed Boris FX and this is the email and the reply that I received:
Q: I own Corel VideoStudio 7 which includes boris graffiti 6.1 – I noticed that there is a boris graffiti 6.6 update on your site, and I signed in and downloaded it. When I tried to install it, it asks me to uninstall the previous version before installing the update. If I do this, it will still be activated in Corel VideoStudio—correct?
A: There should be no problem, so long as the Graffiti 6.6 installer is for Corel (there is also a 'generic' Graffiti 6.6 installer which will not plug into Corel). The one thing that you will need to note is a prompt that will come up during the Uninstall and during the Reinstall. This prompt will ask if you wish to view or alter licensing information - in both cases when you see this prompt, tell it "No".
Thanks,
Jon

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
Let us know what happens when you install it, does it ask for an activation key, if it does install, does it contain a watermark, there will be many users interested to see your results

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
I can only repeat that the upgrade seems to be for Pinnacle Studio, which is a Corel product, and confusingly both Studio and Video Studio use the same numbering system with X in it. So I really thing that upgrade is for Corel Pinnacle Studio X7 (and the link above to Pinnacle Studio X8). So be very careful in installing it, is all I can say...

Thanks canuck, I think that proves that any updates are for the stand alone fully paid for versions only, not for free versions included with NLEs

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
SUCCESS! It works!
I uninstalled Boris Graffiti 6 first from control pan/programs and features, and it didn't ask anything at all during the uninstallation (I was worried at that point).
I ran the Corel 6.6 installer for Corel VideoStudio/Pinnacle. During the installation at the beginning I noticed a message that said it was already activated (nothing to click on at that point). Near the end of the installation, I got the message "did I want to view the activation..." which I clicked NO.
I rebooted, opened up VideoStudio 7, put a sample clip on the timeline, then clicked on FX. It still says Boris Graffiti 6.1 but when I opened it up to use it, it clearly says at the top of the windows that opens Boris Grafitti 6.6 for Corel VideoStudio and Pinnacle. I tried a bunch of the different graffiti effects and they all work.
And now a bonus...I also have Pinnacle Studio 18 installed and Boris FX shows up (and works!) under effects/addons/filter. Boy am I happy!

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
I have to admit that I stand corrected, version 6.6 does indeed install into VSX7 and functions correctly, will carry out further testing to confirm

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
I finally got around just now to installing Boris 6.6, and like the others above, it installed well and is working fine. I first got a message to uninstall the earlier version, which I did. Like imaref, I also got the message about activation towards the end of the installation process. It also listed the current Boris serial number. Unlike imaref, I clicked 'yes' as I already have a Boris account. But that too went fine, and on opening X7 FX, the thumbnail actually said Boris 6.6...

Re: VideoStudio and Boris Graffiti Update
Information about the new X8
When you installed X8 and you plan to keep X7 to have both version running on your PC the Boris Graffiti 6.1 64bit will not show in the FX labrary, if you want it you will have to uninstalled the Boris Graffiti 6.1 for VideoStudio X7 64bit and then manually installed the Boris Graffiti for VideoStudio X8 and it will start to work in X8.
But the bad thing is that it will stop showing in the X7 Version!!!
First un-install your Boris Graffiti 6.1 64bit from Windows.
Second download and install the 6.6 boris graffiti 64bit for X7 and then...

Here is the solution !!!!
and Voilà the problem is fix Thanks Ken.
