Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Hi, I know several people are having a similar problem but mostly when rendering. My problem comes at any time, perhaps after 5 or 10 minutes of editing, and I could be doing different things when it happens. Suddenly a message pops up saying "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program etc etc."
I am running VS Pro X7 and I had downloaded SP1. However, reading some posts I decided to re-install from scratch and have not installed SP1 this time. I have also made sure I have the latest version of Quicktime.
My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and has a 3.40GHz Intel Core i7-4770 CPU with 16Gb of RAM and 1 Tb of hard drive plus an external 1Tb hard drive I use for projects.
The files I am working with are MP4 video clips taken on a GoPro 3+.
Unfortunately I am a complete computer dinosaur so any help that is offered please keep it simple. Thank you in advance.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
While you may be a "computer dinosaur", your computer is no slouch. But that doesn't mean it will take care of itself. The next time Video Studio closes, navigate to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer/expand Windows Logs on the left of the screen/select Application/scroll through the list at top center to see if there is an error for Video Studio at the time it crashed. If so it may tell you just what caused it. If not, look through the System section from the same tree.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Hi bobp, I really appreciate your help. I have looked at three errors from last night in the way you suggested and whilst most of the reports appear to be very similar the main difference seems to be in the line 'Faulting module name'. I hope you don't mind, as I have no idea what I am looking at, here is the last report in full with a a note at the end showing the 'Faulting module name' for the two previous reports.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Thanks for posting the error logs. I'm glad you found them OK.
Uninstalling Video Studio does not remove everything. Somewhere in the Video Studio knowledge base is a routine for completely uninstalling VS. I would at the very least install the Sp1 update. If that doesn't work, then do the complete uninstall and reinstall.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Unfortunately my problems continue. Although I couldn't find details of how to carry out a complete un-install in the knowledgebase I did a complete un-install using a programme call "Special Uninstall". It seemed to find tens of hundreds of files all over the hard drive so I expect it did the job.
I then re-installed VS Pro7X plus the service pack and uploaded some video files that I had used in a successful film before plus some completely new clips. Within about ten simple edits I got the same error message saying that Corel VS has stopped working etc etc.
Faulting module name was ntdll.dll. I wondered if there might be a problem with Windows but my IT guy ran some diagnostics and found no problems.
Is it possible there is a problem with GoPro Mp4 file types?
A year or so ago I completed a nearly 3 hour video of my daughter's wedding taken on a Panasonic video camera which produces AVCHD (.MTS) files. No hitches at all. Now I try to work with the same files VS will not run them in the preview window (shows first two frames then stops) but will run them smoothly in the "single clip trim" window. Weird!
Any thoughts before I ditch VS altogether and switch to PowerDirector 13 instead would be gratefully received.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Well I use my GoPro Hero 3 quite a lot and have never had any problems editing. In fact I just finished a project using the Hero mp4 footage exclusively and it worked flawlessly. Is it possible there is a problem with GoPro Mp4 file types?
That being said, some people have trouble when they use some of the Hero frame sizes which are not 'standard' such as 1920 x 1440 or 1280 x 968. VS spits the dummy with those. And as I said in a recent post about one of these, I guess I have just learned to avoid those formats and set my Hero to use more standard formats such as 1280 x 720p or 1920 x 1080...

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
It is strange Tony,
ntdll.dll is not part of VSX7, it's the OS error msg reporting dll, so why should it crash?
There is a small utility VSX7_Cleanup.zip run it after you uninstall VSX7
http://forum.corel.com/EN/download/file.php?id=6119
and than re install.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Thank you gentlemen, I have un-installed VS and run the clean-up programme. I will re-install at the weekend and see how things go. I will also check my GoPro settings although I will start editing with some trusted .MTS files from my video camera as that is what I will be using for my granddaughter's christening in a couple of weeks.
Once again, thank you. Cheers, Tony.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
Hello folks!
So, I have been following this post because I have been having the same issue: Corel Video Studio stops working. What's amazing is that it stop working the second I try importing any videos into the program. It's a bit difficult to edit videos without the ability to import them. (I will paste the error report at the bottom)
Here are some other details:
I am working on a laptop -- This means NO CD DRIVE
However, I am working with a server (this is all through a business, so there's a lot of transferring through networks) that I have copied all the information from the software CD onto.
I have followed all of the instructions previously posted and am still having issues. Interesting tidbit though, the zip file, although pops up and claims to have cleaned the program off, shows the exact same thing if you look at it a second time.
Please help!! I don't want to waste another day of work battling this... It's damaging my ego.
Thanks

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
I contacted Corel tech support about this error and they recommended upgrading. I finally resorted to that and moved from ver 7 to latest update of version 8, I think 8.5 or so actually. Anyway, it did not work. Today I was getting the error and a crash every 3 -4 minutes.
I'm again talking to support, but its very frustrating and I'm no completely hopeful they will solve it. I fear the program may just have critical problems with some hardware/software combinations. I have a moderately powerful system that more than meets specifications; running Windows 10.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
jamesd1,
you have not included any information about your project which is where I think your problem lies. Just stating "I have the same problem" means nothing without some information about what you are doing, etc as well as info on your source material, etc.
Simply updating the program in most cases does not solve problems and salespersons are in often too quick to suggest that
BTW, you signature does not indicate anything "powerful" about your system.

Re: Corel Video Studio Has Stopped Working
I upgraded to version 8 and still had the problem. Uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Finally, "Revo Uninstaller" which really cleans up old installations. Installed fresh after that, with all traces of early installs/version gone, and problem stopped.
I suspect that the problem is with the Corel installer because it gave no error but produced a flawed installed.
