Text mask

Post by terrypin »

Have I used the simplest method to make this 'text mask' please?

Image

1. In PSP8 open new image, size say 640 x 300, black.

2. Set Text as Selection, colour to anything but black (I chose white) white, solid font (I chose Zurich Blk BT), size 108, Leading -350 (trial/error to get closeness).

3. Enter title and close text dialog, to get marquee.

4. Selection > Edit Selection, then used Deform to fill the window.

5. Selection > Edit Selection to return to normal mode.

6. Selection > Invert.

7. Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste new (Ctrl+V).

8. Save as PNG with transparency as alpha channel.

Unsure

You could do this

1) Promote background Layer to regular Raster Layer

2) Produce Text as vector for editing purposes

3) Resize text to the size you want.

4) Selections -> From Vector Object to make a selection based on the text

5) HIde the text

6) Select the raster layer and Hit the Delete key to remove the area of the text

7) Save as PNG

OR

1) Create the text as vector with any color other than black

2) Resize the vector to match what you want with the Object tool

3) Export the image using the PNG optimizer and set the transparency as single color transparency selecting the color of the text that you made.

Thanks. I like the sound of that second method, which I'll try shortly.

Edit: Now done so. Way better method than mine, thanks a lot.
