Antique PSP

Post by terry foster »

So I have a question. I have the new PSP but I'm still using my antique version of PSP too.
It is the version made by Jasc and is PSP 6.01, service pack 1...build date 12/1/1999.
So it is fifteen years old and still going strong.

I was wondering if anyone else still relied on old legacy software.
Every time I got a new computer, or upgraded Windows it loaded and ran reliably for me.
So much for the concept of having to buy new software because Windows has a new version.
I have to admit I do not jump on new operating systems when they come out either.
So I'm running on XP and Win 7.

Although I've got four newer versions, my every day version is PSP8. It's my favorite version and does all that I need and I can set up my workspace the way I like it, unlike the Corel versions.

What is your question?

I use x6. A Coral version. I have x7 but hate it.
I'd love to use x1 because of the workflow in that version is so much faster then any of the new stuff. Each new version gets more fussy to do things with. Like a bad chess player, makes five moves to achieve what 2 moves could. No bloat ware. A better Organizer... Better in a few other ways. Zoom works far better, Pen tool works cleaner and better, ...
But It keeps crashing! Hours of work can be lost in a instant. It would be my preferred version over x4, x6, x7 that I have and tried.
Though x7 is the same if not worse anyway. :( That's why I stay with x6 ATM. The SP1 and 2 aren't enough for me to waste time on x7. Not after reading the feedback it's received from other users.

Not to say the new versions haven't had improvement because they do! Without doubt tools are more powerful, Tool options have been added and some can do more then older versions so there is a few pluses in the newer versions. Having 64bit is a big plus.

LindaSue;
Not sure there is a Question. Just interesting to see how many are happy with older versions if they still work well on Win7 & Win8.

Yes I still use X2 for the majority of my processing. It does not have the Manage, Adjust modes that bloat the later versions. It seems streamlined in comparison and would be what Corel could make of PSP if they did make a version where the other mods were modules which could be added or not.
It also was one of the last versions that allowed follow zooming right out to the corners. Needed where there were dust spots on images which often appear near edges and need to be cloned out. Later versions do not allow direct zooming of a clone brush out to position x:2 y:2 to hit a dust spot in that vicinity.

However I have purchased each version since and saved the download files and their respective SP updates in at least 2 places in case I need to do reinstallations (new computer, new system)
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867
