cannot install paintshop pro X7
Hello
I would be extremely grateful for some help with paint shop pro X7. I had recently installed a trial version of corel paint shop pro X7.I then uninstalled it and bought a boxed version. I am trying to install the boxed
version but keep getting the error message that it cannot be installed. please help, thanking you in anticipation.

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
I haven't been able to install X7 either.
Your message is more elaborate than mine, I was only told "your system has not been modified".
But when I look in the Registry, there is a lot of X7 debris there.
I tried using a System Restore point, which I set after removing X7 and before installing it again.
It failed.
Have you tried rolling back? to before you installed the X7 trial?

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
You could have just used the key (activation code) from the boxed version to license the D/L trial. Re-install the trial and it will prompt to buy. It'll ask you to buy or activate if you have got a A/C.lindenpunch wrote:Hello

Not sure why it wont install over the trial though. It's the same program either way you get it.

Is this a downloaded exe or a boxed version?Joelle wrote:I haven't been able to install X7 either.

Could be a fault with the disc's?
If so try a downloaded install and use the disc A/C.

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
Mine is the download version, but that shouldn't make any difference.
I always make a back-up copy, once things are working properly, hah..

You are right, It did not dawn on me until you mentioned it,but by then I had already uninstalled it, now it won't let me install a trial version.

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
There maybe some residue files left over from the first install. Like personal settings. Go to C/Programs Files/(for 64bit) or Programs Files (x86) for 32bit) Coral/Corel PaintShop Pro X7 (64-bit) is still there manually delete it. Look in both Program files wouldn't hurt.lindenpunch wrote:@dpainter,You are right, It did not dawn on me until you mentioned it,but by then I had already uninstalled it, now it won't let me install a trial version.
Go to My Documents/Corel PaintShop Pro/0.7 in there. Delete that also. Not that this should be important to the loading on the program but it's not hard to delete so to take out any possible influence it may have.

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
That's easier said than done.
X7 entries are everywhere.
I went through all the Program Files, App data, registery entries (the lot) and deleted everything that said X7.
This should NOT have been necessary, the program should deal with this, not the user.
Short of reinstalling the OS, which at one stage I was considering, there isn't much more I can do.
In previous versions of PSP when you wanted to reinstall, the program would give you a choice of Install, repair or remove.
No such thing popped up this time, or I sure didn't get to see it.
X6 works very well and that's where I will stay until I have a lightbulb moment and solve the problem of why I can't install X7.
I have tried over 10 times now and am getting fed up with it.

Yeah I agree. It shouldn't be the case. Just thought it may help.Joelle wrote:That's easier said than done.

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
I am inclined to agree
Had another rummage in the Registry, found more X7 entries in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, did all the necessary, rebooted and nope, nothing, same message.
My stubborn side wants to keep trying, but I don't know where else to look.
In the meantime X6 is performing fast and well

Re: cannot install paintshop pro X7
Best to use an uninstaller like Revo, free version works well. Gets all loose files that are scattered and removes all from registry.
Also, the Corel Clean Up Utility that they put out for X3 (same as Windows Install Cleanup Tool) will work on any software and remove what I mentioned above.
I've found Corel products usually need a complete uninstall and clean install to work properly. Only one I haven't had that problem with is Aftershot Pro 2, which I downloaded the trial, then bought a serial number.
