Trimming and Splitting

Post by carl365 »

Before deciding on Corel VS, I played with a few other editors and as I understood it, the trim tool was just for trimming the beginning and end of the video, and the split or "multi-trim" was to take out things in-between.
Q > Is the scissor tool in VS designed to do both, the beginning, end, and middle sections?

Thanks!

Yes. You can cut a video clip in any location. cutting at two places in the middle of a clip will create three clips. The centre clip can then either be deleted or dragged back into the Library for use at another location on the Timeline.
Remember that the timeline only creates a set of instructions for modifying your original video and the original video shots remain unaffected by the cutting of a clip on the Timeline.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thanks Terfyn, that's good to know. I'm only a week into video editing so much to learn and do.

Yes it's frightening when you start but persevere and it will come right PLUS you can always ask on this Forum - we all had to start somewhere.
I have found with VideoStudio that it is always worth a try. With VS you can't mess up the original video files and, if what you try doesn't work, you can go back and try something else.

Thanks Terfyn, I'm amazed how much these programs do. I'm finding the only limiting factor is my imagination in making interesting movies. Yes, I make lots of backups of files I can't replace on different media and store them away. Looking at all the great tutorials Corel has in the Discovery Center.
