I unfortunately bought VS7 Pro to specifically reduce the load on my PVR disk by copying programmes off and then writing them (based on the programme series) to a Panasonic DVD-RAM , only to find the software doesn't support this. Is there any plugin I can get to do so? The hardware is fine so this isn't the problem.
thanks

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
Do I understand that you are trying to run video editing software from a DVD ram, to capture/burn output from a TV/game console?

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
I think he is talking about VS not being able to burn his programs, edited in VS, to a DVD-RAM disc...
But I suppose my question is whether there is any specific reason he wants to write to such a disc... Is it because it is in a Panasonic video recorder which uses RAM discs? If not, would it not be just as easy to record to a DVD -/+RW disc, which VS can certainly do...

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
Sorry I was not clear; I use a Humax PVR with internal HD and a Panasonic Bluray recorder with both integral hard disk and BD/DVD drive. Both are getting full on disc space.
I use Filezilla to pull unencrypted programmes onto my PC from the Humax and then want to create edited and compiled DVD RAM discs to archive and play on the Panny. Most are HD so need the 4.7gb on the DVD RAM. VS Pro is fine handling and editing the programmes but the last step onto DVD RAM is the killer, hence the query.

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
And again I can only ask why you have specifically chosen DVD-RAM as the output medium when I suspect your Panny will happily play a "more standard" DVD +/-RW just as well in its BD/DVD drive. Or indeed, if you are going to archive them, why not just use standard DVD +/-R?

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
Simply because historically we have a loads of them from earlier non HD Panny boxes so quite a significant investment.
Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
I think “TPdart” wants to burn a hybrid HD DVD-RAM disc.

Not sure if this has ever been possible though.

Re: Writing Panasonic DVD-RAM
That's a good point. Together with the reference to archiving, I am wondering if we fully understand what is going on. If the main point is in fact archiving the edited video, then I would have thought it would be possible to output an AVCHD video of it and simply use Windows to copy the file to a DVD-RAM disc for archiving purposes. This would probably/possibly not play directly in a Blu-Ray player (though he could at least give it a go with the Panny he uses). But it would be possible at some time in the future to copy the archived footage back to a computer for further work and output on some other medium.
However, if he wants the footage in an immediately playable format, and this is also an AVCHD hybrid disc format, then I would tend to agree with you that a DVD-RAM disc is not the target for this format -- only a 'standard' DVD, whether it be RW or just R...
