how do I specify an image for preview thumbnail?

Post by Roddey_Phipps »

HI - I'm making a simple video.

It renders fine, but always seems to pick a spot in the video I dont want, to be the preview still image that displays when its on youtube.

I've looked and looked, I guess not in the right place, because I cant figure out how to tell Videostudio that I want THIS spot in the video, or even a still capture I made, to be the "preview image" the video displays at default.

Is there any way to do this?

Thanks for any help.

It is Youtube which selects the thumbnail to show on Youtube - not VideoStudio

Youtube will give you a number of options as to which thumbnail to choose - one of the options is very near the middle.

There are some clever people on Youtube who have worked out Exactly where the thumbnails are chosen from in a video - you need to experiment a bit on youtube and put your image in the right place

It doesnt show the right preview on my desktop either. I just used Youtube as an example.

I've saved the file as an mpg and an mp4, and in both, the wrong frame has been selected as the still image preview, when the file sits on my desktop.

Theres no way to tell VideoStudio to "make this frame as the preview"?

Hi

Interesting

My Windows Explorer viewing as large icons / thumbnails does not use the first frame, all use a frame further along the video. Not sure which one?

But this is not controlled by Video Studio, it is a Windows Explorer issue.

OK, so let me ask one more time -

Is there no way to tell VideoStudio, "I dont care what explorer or youtube or anything else says - MAKE THIS FRAME THE PREVIEW".

Is this impossible?

Thank you, for someone finally telling me, "No, this cannot be done".

That was all I needed to know.

Interesting... But there is not all that much info on that link site. It seems to indicate -- at least to me -- that you can generate your own thumbnails for display in Windows File Explorer, but I am left wondering if the OP's original request -- for him to designate a specific thumbnail in things like YouTube -- can also be satisfied...?
