Joel, one thing I can assure you, even VSXX5 will not be perfect (same as pinnacle 25 or premier element 23) but it will always improve a bit.

I know! I am just sad to have to wait a year again for more, I would prefer to pay a little more for more news features now!

It is up to the person to decide if they will buy a product because it meets "their" needs.
A big down side to this if there is no Smartsound integration. I have a large library that I have collected over the years. Smartsound is used in just about every video I do. Scorefitter is from Pinnacle. A few years ago, Pinnacle stopped supplying the Quicktrack plugin in favor of their own developed Scorefitter. Since SS was a part of Pinnacle for so many years, and people amassed libraries, there was a HUGE outcry in the forums. I mean HUGE. Pinnacle and SS worked out a plugin that we gladly paid for. The difference between the music in SS and SFitter is huge. And the library for SS is vast. Scorefitter? 3 albums of mostly to me, midi sounding music. But, with the plugin, we got Express Tracks which is VASTLY superior to Quicktracks.

When updating, I decide if the new features are worth the additional cost and if I am going to be using them, not just having them laying around doing nothing. And for me, realistically, the cost of upgrading isn't much and won't affect my lifestyle, I usually upgrade. But I skipped X7. X6U did all that I need and my main editor is Pinnacle Studio 18 Ultimate. To be honest, it's a more "pro" editor and the feature set is better for the way I work. But VSP by far is the easiest one to get started with and produce great videos.

Multicam is a nice feature to have if you are working with 3 or more cameras. Two cameras, well, it's easy to sync. The audio ducking is also "nice", but audio keyframing is no big deal if you do not have this feature. Alpha channels, yeah! I am sure that there are other tweaks and fixes under the "hood" too. For someone purchasing editing software for the first time, you can't go wrong with this program. If you have X6, well, it's a struggle for the few features it offers and possibly the ones that are not there anymore.

The choice is if you want what they offer. I think the early upgrade price is cheap. I too would be interested in easy masking. But do struggle if Smartsound is not a part of the package. At least offer it as a plugin.....

Pinnacle Studio? I hear the sound of computers crashing and collapsing under the strain of all those bugs.

I started with Studio 5, worked up to 15 and then gave up in disgust. My computer spent a few days with my Dealer who tried to kick it back into life after a (not unexpected) spectacular crash. He recommended replacing it with VideoStudio and I have never looked back. Pinnacle Studio is for people who no longer love life.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

To each his own. But it's obvious you know not what you are talking about. There was never a Studio 5. Never. Typo on your part? I too have had from S8-15U. DV500 w/Premiere. Also Pinnacle Edition-Avid Liquid. I edited whatever I wanted with minimal problems. But then I build my own computers and do not have to take it anywhere for someone to do work on it. Also, I have never read in all my years (over 12) in the Pinnacle forums where your experience has been mirrored by others. Never.
I now edit with PS18U and edit just fine. But then, that's "me". My experience and many others are different from yours, and there is evidence in actual video content on the web to back this up.
What I like about Pinnacle, especially from Avid Studio to now, is that any track can be anything you want it to be. You want it to be a title track? Presto, put title on it. You want it to be an audio track? Presto, put audio on ANY track with video or titles or anything. A track is what YOU want it to be. Also, coming from a more "pro" editing background, overlays were placed OVER the track, not under. But again, it is what "you" are used to and "your" personal preferences.

I am glad you are happy with VSP. I am too. I never knock someone's choices. If it works for "them", that's all the matters in the end, right?
And for further clarification, on my computer is from Pinnacle, Avid Studio, PS16U, PS17U and now PS18U (ever hear of Red Giant plugins?). Also Magix Movie Edit Pro Premium 2015. PowerDirector 13 Ultimate, VideoStudio Pro X6 Ultimate (seems that with each successive version of VSP, the previous one is uninstalled) and Lightworks 64. Every program works. Few crashes. Each has specifics that I like and use for that specific purpose. But my go to editor is Pinnacle for many reasons that only apply to "me". I cut my teeth on editing doing a/b roll with the Amiga and Video Toaster, and before that, with a genlock. I did event work with multi cameras.

For me, software is a tool that I use in editing. I find the right tool for the right job. Just makes life easier for "me".
Happy editing. I would like to see some of your work....

Clearly nor do you. Pinnacle Studio was supplied as a freebe with my Canon HV20 camera back in 2005. Plus it is sad you don't read the Pinnacle Forum of which I was a member. The early versions of PS were very prone to crash and 15 caused my PC to lock up completely.
I am glad your experiences with the later versions of PS are so good - I just wonder why you are using a (obviously inferior) programme such as VideoStudio.

Revisionist history on your part maybe? I would love to know about Studio 5!
While you seem bent on putting down a product that others have used successfully, hey, that's you.
As you read in every editing forum, there are people with problems and issues. Take a look around here for yourself, and go to other editing forums. Basically similar problems with computers, rendering, exporting, etc.. Just different software.

If you want to know why I would use VSP? As I posted, I use the tool that I need to get the job done. Motion tracking, subtitles, Mercalli, etc... whatever it has that I need for the video I am doing. Sorry you feel that it is "obviously inferior" to Pinnacle, something that you have not used.

Information about the new X8

When you installed X8 and you plan to keep X7 to have both version running on your PC the Boris Graffiti 6.1 64bit will not show in the FX labrary, if you want it you will have to uninstalled the Boris Graffiti 6.1 for VideoStudio X7 64bit and then manually installed the Boris Graffiti for VideoStudio X8 and it will start to work in X8.

But the bad thing is that it will stop showing in the X7 Version!!!

Sad, I hope Support will find a solution!!!

Sorry joel, I have Boris Graffiti showing in the FX library and working correctly in both X7 & X8, if you go to the Boris webpage, you can find the plugin for version 6.6 and this also installs correctly into both X7 & X8

You should be able to find it, but before installing read this post http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=55869 for installation guidelines

All I did was copy the Graffiti6.vft file from the vft_plug sub-folder of X7 into the same sub-folder in X8. On next opening X8, Boris 6.6 was there and working fine.

Big thank you Ken.

That work !! Super good workaround
I was trying to do it without tampering any file
Maybe Corel should put the Graffiti6.vft in the proper folder via the install package of X8 if Graffiti is already installed.
