Multi-Language support
Generally, this would be language support for text titles (since anything else is either captured as part of a video/photo, or a recorded voice file spoken in another language). I've read a few posts discussing this - especially for languages that write text right to left on a horizontal line. And from the responses, there did seem to be a list of supported non-english languages which I assume would also require the appropriate keyboard for character generation in the 1st place. I now have a case where I need to know to do this, and I cannot find how to select a non-english language option for VS, nor do my searches turn up anything in the forum. Maybe I'm just using the wrong search term. Can anyone a) advise what sort of language support VS have, and b) where to select it.

Re: Multi-Language support
David, selecting additional languages is done in the OS level. When you install windows there are some "ticks" you need to check to add support and fonts for those languages.
I have English + Hebrew. In order to type in Hebrew I have to ALT+SHIFT first, and my keyboard will type from right to left.

Bare in mind that you can still maintain OS English menus, just read the fine print.
(you better make an image of your C: before the tweaks)

Re: Multi-Language support
Hi asik,
Thanks for the reply. But how choosing another language at the OS level impacts on the ability to type titles/text in that language in VS eludes me. The case I have specifically is a student using VS X7 who is trying to create a movie about vietnamese history and needs to have titles in that language. Which is a language having a strong relationship to french, but is unique in itself with tonal accents above and below script characters. And he can't get title scripts into his project file in the vietnamese script. He has a separate PC that generates vietnamese script using MS word, but that file does not import into the text track of the VS timeline. Probably because it doesn't generate the file formats that text import in VS requires. (in timeline, right click, choose import subtitles and in the panel that opens there's a set of permitted filetypes).
I had envisaged that somewhere in VS there would be control toggle to enable VS to accept text titles in a chosen language - assuming that the attached keyboard could generate those characters to begin with. But apparently not, and thus the question.
What you seem to be saying is that any language choice is exercised in the OS (default is english) but extras can be chosen, and the keyboard toggle you cite causes all text inputs to be read by the OS in that language, regardless of the program in use. Is that correct?

Re: Multi-Language support
What I meant is than VS will display other languages only if the OS will.
So you must enable this feature on the computer that ran VS.
But not only typing, I can copy>paste from notepad into the titles editor.
By selecting a proper font I will have a correct title.
- It's the same with any software,

Re: Multi-Language support
Hi Asik,
You mentioned you could copy/paste from notepad to the titles editor. I just tried that, and it was a miserable failure: both importing the file and using paste to the import panel. And I assume it was because a .txt file created by notepad was not acceptable filetype to the import process (see this snapshot)(ignoring for the moment that turkish seems to be the default text language in this - that can be changed easily enough)
So, how did you do it?

Re: Multi-Language support
I don't think asik1 meant to import the text file itself but to copy and paste the text from the file into the text editor ..???

Re: Multi-Language support
I tried several variations, involving the text track - and they all opened that panel which required an unusual filetype. It was obvious I was missing something, so I kept fiddling, as you do. Eventually I found that it worked if I went directly to pasting from the clipboard into an open text box in the preview window. Interesting that it works this way but not as an import notepad text file.
Muchas gracias.

Re: Multi-Language support
Davidk, you tried to open a common subtitles file that in VSX7 is limited to just few languages.
I understood from your initial question that you want to be able to just use Vietnamese for ordinary titles .

Re: Multi-Language support
TO COPY AND PASTE EXT INTO VIDEOSTUDIO
type the text in notepad/wordpad/word - whatever you prefer - any text or symbol from the character map as well
use your mouse cursor to highlight all the text
press Ctrl and C (CTRL+C) at the same time on your key board
go to VideoStudio and select the add titles library ('T')
Where it says "double click here to add a title" - double click to get a flashing cursor.
Press Ctrl and V (Ctrl+V) at the same time on your keyboard
Text appears in the preview window
do not try to paste text any where else

Re: Multi-Language support
Brian, that's not enough. A supported font must be selected in VS as well.

Re: Multi-Language support
Whatever font I select in Notepad I can also select in VideoStudio and providing you do that all formatting and characters are retained.
